Grice or Beer?

Hold on now. I know Seth was one of the best players we’ve ever had. But Grice has been nearly just as impactful. At least in his freshman year, and this year most of all. On the mound he’s 7-1 and is the best 2-way player in the country.
He’s at the level of hitting where he’s just as feared as Beer was at Clemson. And he’s also coming through in clutch situations. Grice can do literally everything except for catching and middle infield. I believe he’s been in Center at some point as well.
With a Golden Spikes award potentially for Grice, he may go down just as remembered at least as Beer as.
To be clear, it’s either Beer at his best or Grice at his best.

Just as important from what I've seen of Grice, he is a 6'6" giant slayer!!!

Grice and it’s not even close. Beer had 1 year. Other 2 years he had good moments but he hardly hit .300 and all he had was a good arm from the outfield. Beer was a slugger. Grice is also a slugger but plays great defense at 1B and is a lights out pitcher. So much more to this but im too busy this morning 😂

If I am picking a hitter, I am picking Beer no doubt. His numbers actually blow Grice's away from a batting standpoint. Beer had an unbelievable BB/K ratio and Grice still leads the team in K's this year.
However, Grice has been our ace on the pitching staff and that has been invaluable and a big reason why we have won so many games in the 2nd half of the season. So if I am just saying hitter, I am going Beer, but if its total player I may have to lean Grice.

The conventional wisdom on this board was that he was just a great big “K” waiting to happen.
Now we kinda like him.
That’s fandom for you.

So true! Not a baseball expert but I believe it is not just coincidence that Grice is hitting so much better with the new coaching staff. Go tigers and go Grice!

If Grice had not taken a third of the season to find his game I think he would have been a run away for the award. As it is I am not sure. I think it would be a toss up between him and Beer ...... and Greene.

It’s really more about either of them at their best.
Would you take Beer at his best, or Grice at his best. Which Grice’s best is right now.

It’s still Beer. Beer was way more consistent for his entire three years. Yes Grice has broke out into the player we thought he could be but only in the second half of his final season. I don’t see him returning. Love that Grice has finally arrived but I’m still taking Beer.

and right on par with Grice this year. Beer actually holds a little advantage in both OBP and slugging. And of course Beers FR numbers are insane and on a completely different level.
So Beer is unquestionably still the better hitter IMO, but Grice's pitching puts him right there in terms of overall value. I think what he's doing this year is just as impressive as Beers FR season.

I love Grice and his versatility, but the answer to this question may very well lie in the common post threads on the baseball boards. EB>ML. Beer probably gets the nod just based on the fact that he was coached by ML and ML only. Had he had the same opportunity to develop his plate approach further under Bakich, I think he would have been as feared in college as Barry Bonds was in the pros. He was close even with horrible plate approach under ML. Grice's transformation at the plate has been a godsend this year. I think I was going to break a tv if I watched him try to pull an off the plate slider one more time. I think he realizes the change as well and is all in. He has shown great leadership this year.

Unfortunately for Seth, Monte thought it was a good idea to put 25 pounds on him and get him up to 220 because being national player of the year at 195 wasn’t good enough I guess

It certainly didn’t help him cover right field.

Didn’t even know this. Yeah he already had more than enough power at 195, especially in college before even developing in the minor leagues and the MLB. Which he has done, but going all the way up to 220 changes a lot of movement.

I love me some Seth Beer and he maybe a better hitter than Grice but I’ll take Caden any day of the week because he’s a 10x better athlete on the Diamond…Dude can pitch, play 1B, and all three OF spots…he’s also much faster…Grice is absolutely intriguing prospect with massive project-ability…that alone will make him a first rounder.

Beer regressed under Lee’s tutelage. Grice had regressed in his second season under Lee also. He is improving rapidly under Bakich.
