What everyone seems to be forgetting
Aug 5, 2013, 7:27 PM
|
|
All of the pundits, "experts", Coots, Clemson naysayers, Dawg trolls, etc...ALL keep saying how awrsome Jawja's offense is
But do ANY of these idiots realize that Jawja's DEFENSE still has to try and stop CLEMSON's OFFENSE??
Jawja's pre-season ranking is based SOLELY on a decent QB and a much hyped offense.
There is another offense that will be playing in the SAME GAME as Jawja. Clemson's offense is just as good folks. Every bit as good.
We hung 37 on FSU last year, and their defense along with LSU was better than Jawja with its starters in tact. They replace eight starters and one is suspended.
Hello?? Anybody home??
Go Tigers!!!

You are all over it, but we won't get the kudos we deserve. Just like we didn't get any respect prior to the LSU game and not a lot of hype about it afterwards. We just need to play our game, and all will see. At the end of the day, we will be just fine. I believe we will be very special, and the world will see for itself.

How is Clemson planning on scoring 42 without a decent running game to take the pressure off Boyd and the offensive line?

Who says we won't have a decent running game!?....

We return an experienced offensive line and a running back who averaged over 5 yards a carry last year. Not to mention our offense uses a lot of QB runs and incorporates WR's in our running game as well.
We have athletes all over the offensive side of the ball and they will all contribute to an effective running game.
That answer your question?!

I didn't mean it the way that sounded, what meant in my post was if Clemson doesn't come up with a decent running game I don't see them scoring no 40 points.

LSU had 25 rushes for 99 yards. One rush was 57 yards.
Murray has not exhibited a great ability to run.
We have everyone back but Goodman and Willard.
We stopped LSU - I'm not sure why you don't see at least a possibility of stopping their rush.

To be more specific ....
Aug 5, 2013, 9:13 PM
|
|
Jeremy Hill, the only RB Clemson faced with a talent level anywhere near Gurley, rushed 12 times for 124 yards and 2 scores.
Gurley is more talented, has a better OL, and has a QB that can actually complete a forward pass. The UGA running game will have a field day.

he had one big run for 57 yards, you take that away and he only had 67 yards. "Gurley has a better oline" that's debatable at best and probably down right false.

So that run doesn't count?
Aug 5, 2013, 9:38 PM

|
Sorry, but they all count. Clemson's achillies heel last year was the big play, and that 50-some yard run is just an example of the problem. It happened, therefore it counts.
And, yes, UGA's OL is better than LSUs. They were starting two FR and none of the guys who graduated were drafted. They weren't that good, and it showed against Clemson. UGA's OL will do a much better job at both opening holes and protecting Murray.

If they all count - LSU had 99 yards rushing.

Yep

But the RB closest to Gurley's talent level had 127. It's reasonable to try and isolate the individual performances in order to get a better overall feel for how things may play out.

So basically what I'm getting is y'all win because of Gurley.
No reason to worry about losing over half your defense, which wasn't that good anyways.

What would you consider a field day?
The minimum stats - yards passing, rushing and score?

For a single RB, anything above 150 is a "field day". For a team running game, I'd put it at 200.
Passing would be over 300 and total score would be over 40 for field day status.

So you can theoretically have a field day and lose, but you think over 40 points and 200 yards rushing and 400 yards passing for UGA, correct?

More like 350 if you're pressing me.
And yes, theoretically speaking, the offense could have a field day and still lose the game.

I feel like this game is going to come down to which defense can make the last stop. In that situation I'll take Clemson's somewhat experienced defense over Georgia's.
