I have long given up on UGA ever having a good basketball program, but Clemson actually is a solid program that can compete. Georgia can lay claim to possibly having the worst basketball program in the SEC. 1983 seems like 40 years ago
Are the Tigers as good as Walt suggests? I certainly will be pulling for them

To be honest we got completely screwed by the tournament committee. It was an absolute disgrace we were left out. Especially when a NC State team, who we crushed 3 times, made it. I believe we would’ve won at least a game in the tournament. Clemson did not care about the NIT.

Several of us provided clear statistical reasons why Clemson would not make the NCAAT. The numbers and historical significance of those numbers made it quite obvious we would be left out. And that's exactly what happened.
Comparing to NCSU makes it "feel" worse, but the bottom line is that we did not have a tournament-worthy resume.
If you are insinuating that we lost in the NIT because of a lack of enthusiasm, that's 100% on Brownell.

No, we weren't. You can't lose 3 games to absolutely pitiful teams and expect to get in anyway. Strength of schedule and strength of record has to mean something when you are trying to reduce 350 teams down to a field of 68.
In football terms - just saying "our record alone was enough" would be like putting UCF in the Natty a few years ago. Just because they had a good record doesn't mean they were worthy of the title.

We had losses to 3 win Louisville, Loyola Chicago, SCAR, and Morehouse State. How on earth can anyone say that is a NCAA basketball team? Deptula is an idiot that doesn't know basketball. Don't be like him.

Elite eight might be a little exuberant but it would be nice. I’m not anti Brownell and certainly not anti Dabo. Fans should be smart enough to know it’s incredibly difficult to keep finishing in the top four forever. Good luck to your Bulldogs! I think you might win another natty.

Yeah, but give your new coach Mike White a little more time. he has only been there one season and already improved the Dogs a lot in wins at 16. they now have a top 15 recruiting class coming in this season. When is the last time coach Brownell had a top 15 recruiting class...?

Winning the ACC tournament for THE FIRST TIME EVER would be nice. If you were at the Duke game you would have seen 80% of the people in line for a Cameron Indoor tour wearing orange. That’s “best is the standard”.

Clemson, despite my misgivings about Brownell, should be very good this year. They return PJ Hall and Chase Hunter and add Joe Girard from Syracuse out of the portal. Add in the freshmen getting another offseason in the weight room and conditioning, as well as a couple of other nice portal pieces, and it really should be a good basketball team.
However, I would never put a lot of stock in what Deptula says. He is like North Korean state media when it comes to Brownell. Regardless of the facts, he is going to say Brownell is a genius and anyone who disagrees is an idiot.
All that said, this had better actually be make-or-break for Brownell. There is ZERO reason this year's team shouldn't be an NCAAT team at bare minimum. Honestly, I'll be disappointed if they don't win a game or two. Falling ass-backwards into the tournament is not enough IMO.
