I just had someone I know email that they were surprised that they could take a picture of a check to deposit it. I emailed them back and told them that that they've been doing this now for at least 5 years now. Welcome to the 21st century.
That reminded me of a story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution of two University of Georgia football players who deposited checks this way and then took the physical checks to the bank to cash.
Of course the artical said they got in troubled doing this. I guess being in the 'lock up' is considered to be in 'trouble' even in Athens,
It's a wonder someone still docent try this

I’ve been with Founders for over 40 years…I think back in the day you had to be a relative of an employee or something. I either got in on the tail end of that or just after. Have had a few mortgages and all my car loans with this over the years…been good to me…but they are getting bigger and starting to become more bank-like.

and mails them to pay his bills - goes into the bank branch to deposit checks and get cash. No matter what I tell him, he thinks debit cards and online banking are extremely dangerous. Is still stuck in the past.

Mom is that way. No matter how many times I tell her it’s a lot easier to steal her info off a paper check.
She thinks it doesn’t exist online if she never signs in to her account.

My mom doesn't have the internet at her house.
She still writes checks and will spend an afternoon balancing her checkbook
I once told her...you put checks in your mailbox and then put a little red flag up to let everyone know you have your banking information in the mailbox.
Since I told her that...she makes weekly visits to the post office to drop her mail off.

My mom is the same way. No banking online.
I never even go to a bank anymore.
Get a loan and you can sign online, use direct deposit and get cash for a haircut (yes barber just takes cash) from the grocery store.

My Grandaddy used to carry more $ in his wallet than what he let the bank hold. “ Might see a cow I want to buy” He came up through the depression and didn’t trust banks. When he passed away, his children found a small wood box in back of his closet with more than 50K cash. Always told my Mama, his daughter, “ There’s enough here to bury Me and your Mama.” That was important to them. This was 30+ yrs ago.

Grandaddy always carried exact change to pay his bills downtown to every utility. Would count out cash, then ask for a kiss on the cheek from the pretty clerks. Great memories about an old farmer and police chief in rural SC.

Should anyone write a check for any reason, use a gel pen so it can't be whitewashed. I had a $2,000 check stolen and whitewashed and deposited in a bank in Pennsylvania. Believe it or not not, the Penn. bank defended their depositor. However, the truth came out and the Penn. bank had to eat crow.

My recent technological advance is using G-Pay (Google Wallet) and scanning QR codes to pay for most everything. Been doing that for a little over a year now. Of course, Clemson tickets require it for 3-4 years now, but I was leery of putting my CCNs on my phone with NFC turned on at all times.

Forget the Debit card, it's easier to get ripped off than a credit card.
Move around from time to time on different credit cards that offer 0 percent interest.
Use cash if needed.
Sometimes when paying in cash and let's say the total is $11.32 I will hand the youngun checking me out $13.17 and watch the fun if I'm not in a hurry.

Also good to use credit cards to earn miles, if you like to travel. We earn probably about 150k miles a year just from these cards, which we pay off monthly. We haven't paid for a flight in years.

I love to do that especially at a fast food place if something is 11.32 and I give them 11.37 so I get back a nickel instead of 3 more pennies. It just blows their mind why I gave them over the amount due.

A guy that worked for me until this stunt deposited his pay check last fall via phone and then tried to deposit again via his phone twice once on Wednesday and then another time on Thursday a few weeks ago claiming he couldn’t remember if he deposited and said the one on Wednesday wasn’t showing up so he tried again on Thursday. He had a date and needed the money, his Mom owns a business(she’s loaded) and has co ownership of 5 horses and owns two horses out right worth $250k with us. Why he didn’t ask for the money blows my mind.

Yeah. A little too easy. Be careful who you hand a personal check to these days. If they can just scan it over the phone then they still have a paper copy of your check floating around with your account number and personal info on it. Lord knows where they throw it down or whose hands it falls into if it doesn't go to a brick and mortar bank.
My parents had check that was whitewashed and changed to 5,000. The bank actually became suspicious when the crook tried to cash it.

I have a friend that literally doesn't know how to use an ATM card. He easily makes 250,000 - 350,000 per year and has about 10 million in the bank. He operates in cash only at restaurants, retail, etc.
