I just watched the Murdaugh episodes

9

Feb 26, 2023, 1:05 AM

On Netflix. A lot of the interviews are with the kids from the 2019 boat accident and their parents. I already heard most of this but it was still very eye opening. The level of sleaziness and deception is just unbelievable. It would make for a fantastic movie. What a crappy, entitled family they are 😏

People that earn their wealth by being cutthroat find their way into positions of power easily. The lazy wealthy like me just watch you peasants fight with each other.

The Founders screwed up royally by not having term limits. They never imagined one would want to be in Congress for life, since the Federal government was so limited by the Constitution.

But the 16th Amendment addition of a Federal income tax (originally 1% to 6% max, only on the “rich,” affecting only 4% of the population) and subsequent introduction of socialism and unconstitutional “government programs” has led inevitably to the grifting cesspool we have now. Come in with moderate wealth and then somehow end up worth 10s to 100s of millions, all while in “government service.” What a gig.

The idea of the citizen legislator, do your civic duty for awhile then get back to real work, is long dead.

Amazing how those that happen to be career politicians have 3 homes on their salaries. I do understand your point and amazing this guy got away with this for so long. Not sure how some folks can go on. Not sure I could live with that guilt. Corruption had been going on way before Alex from stories I have read. Hard to say what is and is not true but common sense has to prevail when there are 5 bodies found dead and each one has some type of ties to the Murdaugh family.

After I watched it I wanted to jump in the shower 😳. The level of sleaziness was unreal and add in all the financial crap (stealing from everyone) we now know about and it’s a complete S@&t show. Who needs a daytime soap opera when you have this?

2 things have really caught my attention recently. The 1st I learned during the trial and it’s that Maggie owned Moselle 100%, The question is why?? Why was that necessary? The only thing Alex owned was 50% of their beach house. There was equity in both properties. Alex claimed on the stand that she would have signed whatever he asked her to in order to get equity loans that he needed and he definitely needed and wanted them. I suspect she did NOT want to do that. A Reason for murdering her? The day she died he was confronted by the CFO at his law firm about stealing.

The 2nd thing was from the Netflix show. He took out a “commercial” insurance policy (I don’t recall if it said homeowners policy on the show) on his Moselle property ONE month before his housekeeper “fell” down the stairs and died. He received $4.3 million from this policy that was supposedly for her sons and he kept it.

Alex is a steaming pile of ####. He’s blaming his behavior on addiction but he appears to just be a crappy slimeball with or without an addiction.
I believe with the stealing finally catching up with him he snapped because Maggie wouldn’t agree to getting equity loans on the properties and/or she may have wanted a divorce and she owned most of their property. As for Paul, the boat wreck got the ball rolling when they were sued by the Beach family. Sorry for the very long post. I think I’m a “little detective” 😏

Re: I just watched the Murdaugh episodes

Feb 26, 2023, 10:40 AM

Alex changed the ownership structure and his Will’s and trust immediately after the boating accident. That is why Maggie owned 100% of house and property. Alex was trying to move as much of their assets out of reach of any claim or judgement on his property because of the boating accident.

The insurance policy he took out in the house and property was a “balloon” policy that would cover such “accidents” like the housekeeper’s.

I thought the said the insurance policy

Feb 26, 2023, 8:47 PM

Was a commercial policy? If so, I guess he insured it as a business and how in the world did an insurer issue him a check for $4.8M liability settlement?? Even if it's a personal policy?

As someone who works in that business, I'd love to know what the insurable interest was , which insurance company and the details of that claim payment.

Or maybe I'm just missing how it was actually structured?

How can you say that about Pau Pau?

Feb 26, 2023, 6:33 PM [ in reply to Re: I just watched the Murdaugh episodes ]

He was just a wonderful 22 year old son who was always busy around the plantation, planting sunflowers or fruit trees… or drunk-speed-boating into a bridge with his friends. And Pau Pau loved his family. He kept an eye on everything.

Me and your wife need to get together and binge watch this Sh$t show 😬. I’m so fascinated with it but also I’m just interested in general in stuff like this. I’ve seen so many of the dateline and 48 hours etc shows that I’m familiar with many cases/murders. I really believe I should have been a criminologist or something to do with investigations. Maybe a profiler. Btw, I’m a married woman so I’m not trying to move in on your wife 😛

They do a really good job getting into the details.

However, I’ll say that they have recently started to annoy me. Mandy especially seems to be angry and overly biased in her journalism/reporting.

More recently I’ve been enjoying the Murdaugh Family Murders podcast. Much more objective look at what’s going on.

I got about halfway through the 80 or so episodes and had to quit. The subject matter is fascinating but Mandy needs to do more journalism and less opining. And my god, she must have broken her arm while patting herself on the back while simultaneously dogging all other reporting on the subject.

I’ll have to check out that other show you mentioned.

I had not heard about Paul’s girlfriend being abused by Paul.

Some saying he was funny and just fun to be around but when he drank he became a totally different person. Very sad. Glad she had moved on before he died. The whole situation breaks my heart and a lot of innocent people paid the price.

I told my wife though and it’s something folks that still have teenagers in the home can share. 6 people were on that boat that night and not one of them made the right decision. At least one of those kids could have said hey this guy is intoxicated and acting reckless I think we should Uber home. Not one. I find that sad as well. Fortunate I guess but we had some level headed friends that hung out with us when I was that age and fortunately often made the right choices when some of us were making the dumb ones. This was so preventable with common sense with any of the other 5 that allowed a guy so drunk to drive them home. Just another example of the invincibility of the teenage mind.

Yup, the other guys on the boat should have beat that kid's @$$ when he hit the girl, and shouldn't have let him drive the boat.

I'm not blaming them for what happened, but there's no "bro code" that should supercede keeping a guy in line on hitting a girl or endanger lives while drunk. I guess the fact that they were all apparently drunk factors in to all their decision making that night.

The video I guess in my opinion 4 of the 6 looked capable of making a different choice and it was even brought up in their interviews. Paul was 3 times the legal limit.

Mallory’s boyfriend should have knocked his ### out.
The Conner kid did not look capable of knocking anyone out.

Getting an Uber home from Beaufort but Paul didn't want to leave his boat and he didn't want to leave the other alone and his gf didn't want to leave her friends either.

But you're right, someone should have taken a stand and it's a good lesson to teach kids about the dangers of alcohol, group think, abusive people while intoxicated, etc.

I don't have Netflix but I wonder if it is the same as the one on HBOMax or how much they vary??

The lawyers and politicians run America. They hated Trump because he wasnt a politician, wasnt a Lawyer, nor did he have big backers from a political family. The fascist don't want all the dirty secrets to get out just like Hunter Biden's laptop that was for so long called a lie until there was too much evidence. But the politics didn't want it exposed as it gives insight into the corruption.

What was going on with the Murdaugh's is just a small slice of how corrupt the lawyers and politicians can be. Look at the millions and millions Alex stole from innocent people he won cases for and never paid them a dime saying the fees and court costs consumed every penny of the suit.

This is one little facet in a corner of SC. Just think about this nationally and how often lawyers could take advantage of simple people in NY, LA, SF, Seattle, etc, etc.

Just pi$$ed me off seeing how easy it was for Alex to walk away with $4mil and the judicial system that he fought thru to help the kids of a family, once funds were dispensed, why is there no judicial follow up to make sure funds are distributed. Or why are funds not put into Trusts that reduces access grom outsiders?

I know that was a tangent but it all plays into the entire story line that was exposed in this story. What a mess!

What’s interesting is the whole thing started to unravel in 2005

Feb 26, 2023, 8:22 PM

When the SC state legislature changed the law the used to allow civil suits to be brought in any county or circuit court where the defendant was engaged in some sort of business.

They had such a racket going on down there in the 14th circuit that over half the injury/wrongful death cases against corporate trucking or railways in SC were filed there with their law firm.

It’s really sad to think about how Ellick Merdick (his pronunciation) ruined a 100 year reputation as dynasty of family lawyers and solicitors. Maybe he just brought the shady activities to light. I have no doubt that he committed those murders on that fateful evening to remove the prime suspect of a 30M suit from the boat crash, avoid an impending divorce and help cover up his opioid addiction that Pa Pa and Mags were growing weary of. The question is will all 12 jurors see it the same and I’m betting no because despite mountains of circumstantial evidence, there’s no smoking gun, witness, etc. like you see on CSI. It blows my mind that SLED and local law enforcement never went to the Almeda estate to look for evidence or maybe they did. Time will tell but I’m sure John Grisham is already writing a novel about it…

We watched them Friday night. Although my son was born in SC, he has spent most of his life in Illinois and even today is still there. We were talking about the trial and told him he and his wife should watch the Netflix series to see some of what led up to the murders.

He sent me a text tonight and said they were watching. His comments included that family (Murdaugh) is one big pile of trash and them wearing the Gamecock gear explains it all.
