Saw some people on here getting on Litefoot

For some comments he made and I understand the responses but Litefoot is indeed a Clemson grad and is from a different generation. I don't condone his comments in any was but don't be so quick to judge. He is one of the nicest men you will ever meet and has done far more for minority communities than the vast majority on here ever will during his many years of service before retirement. Again I am not condoning his comments but this is a guy who would genuinely do anything for anyone who needed his assistance minority or not. He just made a mistake in judgement but perfection in one form or another has eluded us all. Go Tigers!

If this is the case, there is not a good person alive. And certainly not one on this board.

I won't defend the term Litefoot used, or the fact that he used it. But to suggest that he's not a good person because he did is a giant load of hypersensitive, self-righteous, politically correct ########.

Judging the remark, not the man.

I know nothing about him; but I recall the old saying - Better to be quiet and have others think you're a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
When he posts here he is in part representing Clemson. His remarks were embarrassing. What might Daniel Rodriguez have to say about that? That man's an American hero; but you don't have to be hispanic to feel shame reading that nonsense.
Do you think opinions like that represent Clemson accurately? I don't.
That said, I'll let bygones be bygones.

Since he is able, I would suggest he rethink and delete that post. While many of us did not like the behavior of the Miami team, the comment is offensive.

I did not indicate outrage in my post. Just that he could consider deleting it.

Are any rednecks actually offended by being called a redneck ? If so , I've never met one . It's kind of a badge of honor in fact with a true to the bone redneck . That's not an offensive term like the one he blurted out , not even in the same ballpark.

being a redneck, will fight you or cut you in a flash if you call them a redneck. The term "redneck" certainly does offend a lot of people, so if offending people is truly the concern, that term should not be used either.

I think it's more likely how the term redneck is being said , by whom and under what circumstances. I don't know too many self aware rednecks that get upset when somebody refers to them as such , same as being called a cracker by any minority group . When you're percieved as the standard , or the majority ...then slangs and slanderous terms from people outside of your circle just don't really work . That's my opinion .

Being from the South with a fairly decent and proper background I never associated myself with that term. However as I traveled the world, lived among other people of different races and colors, I found that many of them lumped anyone from the south that is Caucasian as a "Redneck". To my friends I explained the difference and how it was actually insulting to me, and we moved on. To strangers or those I disliked, I either ignored, or took umbrage at the remark, then moved on. Still, it's a word, and as long as I didn't feel it wasnt being hurled as an insult, I was ok. Anything past that, ehhh, well we all have a little 'Neck in us sometime

I saw the term Litefoot used. Inappropriate, no doubt. But I did want to say this too. Just a general observation from an old fart. People sure are a helluva more sensitive about "words" than they used to be. Growing up, I was taught the old "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". So if you got in a fight at school and your rationale was - Well, he called me a _____ ... you were probably gonna get another whooping from your Mama. Because you didn't have sense enough to just ignore what some fool said. LOL
Go back and watch some of the old classic All In The Family episodes from the 70s. Spades, spics, pollocks, kites, micks, krauts, japs, etc. Most popular show on TV. Yeah, they were making a point, to expose bigotry and make Archie look a fool. But everybody was also willing to have a little fun made at their own expense. We could laugh at ourselves, and kinda go along with whatever stereotype and "street slur" that we all knew was being used every day.
Me? Oh lord. My mama grew up in a log house back in the sticks of north Georgia. No electricity, no running water, outhouse, etc. Her brothers were moonshiners. Think of Loretta Lynn's childhood home in Coal Miner's Daughter. Hillbilly city, baby. I worked in cotton mills during HS and college, so I'm a card-carrying "lint head". Lived on the west side of Greenville with all the other poor white folks...
So I guess I'm just Redneck-Hillbilly-Linthead-White Trash from the wrong side of town. And I'm laughing as I type that.
Just sayin.

I understand your point. But this is a message board with just words. That being said, I do not doubt that this gent is a great person. One message does not make a person.
Being a military brat and living all over this world growing up, I did not fit in anywhere. In schools up north I was called a redneck.....down south I was called a yankee . I am a yankee redneck and that is fine by me.

people get more worked up about words than actions...not defending the words, but there are certainly more important things to get worked up about. That said....Freedom of speech exists. (or at least I thought it did ) One has the right to make poor choices or mistakes and will incur the consequences

Lite's a grown man who can either defend or remove whatever was said.
But if we're in the business of crowning or cursing folks here for what (I'm guessing) was a less-than-PC comment, then we're all doomed here.
He's broken bread with me, and I with him and he loves the Tigers as all right-thinking Sons of Clemson do.
The rest we can hash out over a beer.

just saw this! What on earth did I say that was so awful???what should I remove?as for what I have done for minorities over the last 25 years I did that because I WANTED TO!! there is a passage in the bible(Matthew I think) that says "as ye have done to the least of these so have U done to me". until U have seen a mother with tears running down her face thanking an organization for food to feed her family U simply would not understand. As for that awful phrase that I used I will be glad to remove it if I could fine it.we have truly become the "nation of the offended"
