Never played football
Got his law degree from Pepperdine
Went by Cal Poly coach’s house and knocked on door, coach came to door and Leach handed him a play he’d drawn up that was the perfect offensive play. Cal Poly coach said it looked good but had one problem.
He told Leach it had 12 players!
Leach said, “I’ll be back”
He came back 2 days later.
Cal Poly coach hired him….

I heard he said it wasn't the perfect football play and then leach re-wrote the play to include a new verse about mama, trains, trucks, getting drunk and prison.

Never played COLLEGE football.

Played HS football and broke his ankle his senior year. Played rugby in college and coached youth baseball from age 15 into college. That's where he fell in love with coaching.
