I'm ticket broker but like Clemson and can answer questions

Jan 4, 2016, 8:53 PM

So, I come in peace. I have read the board the last few days and occasionally the last few years so I figured now was a good time to post as there are lots of questions that deal with tickets to the National Championship.

I married into a GT family. We love going to Clemson. I would be fine if my children attend there one day. Some of our best friends are Clemson fans/grads. I have multiple IPTAY accounts and lots of season tickets to Clemson so I truly do pull for Clemson when they are not playing GT.

I have seen several questions answered but some people seem confused so I figured I will try to provide some "professional" help. lol

1. It is my understanding all tickets from both Clemson and Alabama are etickets. I think the exception is if you pick them up at willcall. This was the case last year with both Oregon and Ohio State. The schools will mail the commemorative tickets after the game.

2. Ticket brokers all charge fees. Obviously the big boys like Stubhub, Ticket City, and Vivid do charge a lot. Understand their business model is primarily to not carry inventory. So, they are simply an exchange between a buyer and a seller and therefore that is how they make money by charging fees. You can buy directly from the seller/broker who has the tickets and pay no fees.

3. Stubhub can be trusted. In many ways, Stubhub is a broker's biggest competition. But, I cannot say enough good about them when it comes to delivery especially for big events. I saw them buy probably $5-$6 million worth of tickets to the Super Bowl last year when most people were not getting tickets. Stubhub is owned by eBay and delivers. Will they occasionally have a fraud sell fake etickets on their site? I'm sure. For this game, though, your risk is minimal.

4. The reason is Stubhub has a great venue set up probably 1/4 mile from the stadium that is the exact same setup as they used for the Super bowl last year. It is convenient and fun. And if for some reason you have a problem with a ticket, they will be 1/4 mile away and take care of it immediately.

5. Which sections are Clemson sections? Let's be real clear 75% of the stadium is going to be Orange! But officially Clemson gets 403-421 and then 141-144 and 101-108 and the corresponding Club sections. But I can tell you i have already sold about 300 tickets to the game and for the most part it is to Clemson people so regardless of where you sit you should have a lot of Clemson folk around you.

I can answer more questions if you want. I was there in Phoenix for the BCS between Oregon and Auburn (highest priced ticket of all-time until...I was there for the Super Bowl last year which is by far the highest priced ticket of all-time). Phoenix is a great place to host a big event. But brokers have for some reason sold way too many "short" tickets there before. All indications are most brokers did not short this game at all so there are plenty of tickets and supply should not be a problem.

Feel free to ask any ticket or logistical questions if you want. And Go Tigers!

Thanks what are club level tickets going for?

Jan 4, 2016, 9:02 PM

Thanks in advance.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lot less than they were a week ago

Jan 4, 2016, 9:07 PM

Market seems to be around $500 for upper corners, $600 for upper sides, $600 for lower ends, $750 for lower corners, $900-$1250 for lower sideline and about a $200 premium for Club over lower. These prices are for Clemson side of stadium; the Alabama side is definitively less.

Those are basic prices brokers are getting today. Now, those are about 30% lower than a week ago so I have no idea what tomorrow will bring when Clemson begins to email tickets.

What tells you 75% of the fans will be Clemson?

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

About 90% of the calls I get to buy are from Clemson fans

Jan 4, 2016, 9:16 PM

and 99% of the calls or emails I get to sell are from Alabama fans or Ohio State fans who bought early. Only one Clemson alum is trying to sell and he has a lot of great seats and I buy a lot from him for lots of events.

Clemson is buying and Alabama is selling. Lack of affordable airfare is what is keeping the ticket price from going much higher as Clemson 2016 is much like Auburn 2011 in demand and excitement. Auburn had 35 days to plan the trip is the difference.

Jan 4, 2016, 9:16 PM

misuse of what iptay was founded for. not someone to have multiple accounts. hopefully how ever all your bogus accounts are set up will ultimately be taken down( LLCs, companies or whatever). iptay needs to clean up all this crap. as of lately it has really gotten out of hand. And thanks captain obvious about the lesson about stub hub.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IPTAY is in bed with StubHub, so indignation is misplaced.

Jan 4, 2016, 9:21 PM

It is a business. You can have as many accounts as your willing to donate for.

If you are going to be upset at anybody, get upset at the leeches that hang onto their deceased granddad's great season tickets by continuing to make minimum donations to IPTAY rather than letting the seats go back into the pool like they are supposed to so other donors can eventually move up (unless a Life Donor that can hand down one generation - no longer offered).

They are supposed to clean that up too. But the abuse of multiple accounts should be cleaned up also. Why would someone need so many accounts unless some type of scalping is involved. I qualify for 8 tickets and that seems good . let son or duahgter join and the legacy continues but not one person. It is wrong.

I can tell you several IPTAY members who give $10,000 or more per year provide me with tickets so be careful who you cast stones at. I long ago got used to the negative stigma and namecalling so I can take it.

My accounts are in my real name FWIW.

Jan 4, 2016, 9:53 PM

A few 10,000 dollar donors will not make or break IPtay. I know several 10 grand donors who use their tickets and need more. So I could care less who I cast stones at. I have been an iptay donor for 40 plus years, and I hate the way this inflated ticket deal has become. I get most what I need anyway. The real big donors are not generally involved. Maybe a group that pools money to be a Heisman donor or something but the folks who really built iptay 10 granders and up dont need a few thousand bucks to deal with scalping.. So multiple accounts are permitted I suppose. I did not know that one person could have multiple accounts. thanks for that info.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you deal with very wealthy people much?

Jan 4, 2016, 10:21 PM

They like to make money. I have text messages right now from an IPTAY member trying to sell me a large pack of Clubs on the 50. I'm guessing he does not need the money but he wants it. I am also guessing he gives much more than $10,000 a year.

I don't want them as he wants too much - wants $2000 each

Jan 5, 2016, 11:21 AM

I don't have a buyer who will pay that. I think he'll be at $1500 by tomorrow where I might have a buyer. I prefer not to take too much risk. Been there done that. If you are interested, I could broker the deal and make nothing but his identity cannot be made known so I would need to be the middle woman.

Jan 4, 2016, 9:29 PM

I am planning to drive so haven't had to fully commit (no booked flight) and have since been trying to see if ticket prices will go down. From what I have seen since new years on it looks like the price has steadily crept down. Do you recommend I continue to hold out, and if so, for how long?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I expect prices to continue to fall some

Jan 4, 2016, 9:35 PM

There is still a lot of inventory out there. If you sit on the Alabama side, you will be able to get in for less than face and probably quite a bit less than face. I could see the Clemson side staying close to face. It depends on how many and how much locals will pay who have no rooting interest.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd kind of prefer to sit on the Alabama side

Jan 4, 2016, 9:37 PM

For every one of their tickets we replace with a Clemson fan is a 2 way swing. Make it as orange as possible!

Plus I'm also interested in the cost savings.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks for providing good, factual information.

Jan 4, 2016, 9:51 PM

I've always used Stubhub and never had a problem. Good to hear that ticket demand is coming primarily from Clemson fans. The turnouts at the ACC Championship game and the Orange Bowl were both 75-80% Clemson fans. Don't expect to see that ratio in Glendale because of the distance, but hoping for a lot of orange in the stands.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No not in the way you are thinking

Jan 4, 2016, 10:14 PM [ in reply to I heard there was ]

There were not fraudulent tickets. There was fraud in that thousands of tickets were sold "short" and ticket brokers did not deliver so people did not get to go to the game. Yes, there was vast fraud but not if you are suggesting fake tickets. It is a completely unregulated industry and there are lots of shady people in this industry. But I will say with each year, the industry gets more and more professional. If not buying from one of the very big exchanges like Stubhub or Ticket City, you should buy from a member of the NATB (National Association of Ticket Brokers).

There were no tickets in Phoenix last year fake or real; that was the problem. I had to pay $52,000 for four lower sideline to fill an order for a customer two days before the Super Bowl. ouch!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: No not in the way you are thinking

Jan 5, 2016, 11:19 AM

Thanks! So people just sold tickets they didn't have and couldn't deliver?

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly

Jan 5, 2016, 11:40 AM

Same thing as 5 years ago with auburn and Oregon. Real fans will pay certain prices. When you see a market go crazy it is because of brokers having to fill orders. The big and legit brokers will fill no matter the costs driving the ticket price sky high.

Three biggest examples are 2011 BCS, 2013 Masters and 2015 Super Bowl. I was on the right end the first time, neutral the 2nd time and on the wrong end the 3rd time. Lost $160,000 on 25 tickets in 24 hours last year on Super Bowl.

about half will be hard tickets and if they came from Clemson or alabama they will likely be etickets printed out. This was the case last year in a 90,000 seat stadium.

Stubhub should know and you can look at the notes on Stubhub and some of the notes will say "Traditional Hard tickets" if they are the commemorative stock.

They used to travel well 2009 and before

Jan 5, 2016, 11:30 AM [ in reply to Bama travels really well, we will be lucky to have ]

Alabama does not travel well anymore. Notre Dame drove the market three years ago to $1100-$1250 per ticket but if UGA has been in the game it would have been a $1750-$2000 ticket.

Alabama traveling is just not true.

Top 5 travelling fan bases and it's not really close:

1. ND (by far)
2. Michigan
3. Ohio State
4. Texas
5. Nebraska

I would put Clemson in the top 10 well ahead of Alabama. The only SEC school in there would be LSU.

Great thread, thanks for sharing!!!

I would love to get in the club or lower level (on Clemson side) for $800 or less. I see some clubs in corner for around $800-$900 already. Do you think these will go lower, or I might be able to get closer to the sidelines for the same price if I wait? Or am I being greedy and should just buy now?

Also, if it is a printout ticket and you purchase from Stubhub, is there any way to get a hardcopy after the fact?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have plane tickets and hotel tickets, but no game tickets

Jan 6, 2016, 11:44 AM

I booked my flight and hotel the day after the Orange Bowl. I would guess most people that have booked their travel already have tickets in hand for the game. The ones holding out for ticket prices to drop may decide not to go when they see how much flight prices have gone up. Or do you think a lot of Clemson fans are travelling without tickets? As much as I'd like to think Clemson is a big attraction, I can't imagine too many people outside of our fan base paying a lot to go see us play. And Alabama fans probably assume they'll just wait until the next championship game their in that's a little closer to home?

Do you think this combination of events could leave a lot of tickets available for lower prices as the day of the game draws near?

If I see lower level seats come available for close to face value before we fly out, I'd prefer to go that route, though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I have plane tickets and hotel tickets, but no game tickets

Jan 7, 2016, 3:33 PM

you were very wise

just like FSU vs Auburn, once the flights sold out, prices started falling hard.

This tickets seems to be a lot like FSU vs Tennessee in Tempe in 1998. I have heard $10 on the street. I could see this being $100 on stubhub or $50 on the street on Monday.

Same game in Tampa next year might be $1000 ticket. Very, very volatile markets are tickets.
