I don't have an obd2 scanner so no clue what is wrong. Anyway, some time after 9 last night I get an email from onstar about the #### airbag needs service.

My assumption is some goon tried to steal it, it wouldn't start, so they started punching things any it went off.

What fun story can you come up with?

Being that this is still under the bumper to bumper warranty, it is at a dealership. I probably will not do business with them again as it is taking so long to get it looked at.

My old Chevy I keep in the country for hauling trash etc. It randomly decide not to fire up. Could crank fine for m weeks, months then won't crank. Turns over fine but won't fire. My mochanic thinks it's a short to the fuel pump and he needs to get it when it's not cranking to fine the short. He's haule it up to the shop several times in the last few years but by the time he goes to work on it of course it is cranking again. Alternative is to drop the tank and run a new wire to the ignition. Probably will at some point sooner than later. Have to take the boat in for the 300 hr. service...not cheap.

30k mile warranty so at a dealership. It will stay there as I don't feel like paying for another tow.

it to even determine what needs to be done? Seems like you need to call the dealership and let them know how disappointed you are in their lack of service and lack of security.

99% chance its a sensor

because it's always a sensor.

Once, I had to fix my car myself when it baffled "Mr Goodwrench":

Years ago, I had a Pontiac that started shutting off randomly, sometimes at very inopportune times (like going 60 on a highway). Then it wouldn't start until engine had COMPLETELY cooled off. Then, ran perfect for several weeks, until it would do the sudden shutoff again.

Took it to dealer. Obviously couldn't replicate beause it was so random. They drove it and drove it, and said - nothing wrong. I said, no SOMETHING is wrong. Engine dying travelling 60mph in traffic - yeah THAT'S A PROBLEM.

I did a DEEP dive into the internet to see if anybody else was having this same problem with same model car I had. And yeah, I did find others with this issue. They said it was some airflow sensor, like a $25 part causing this. I wish I could have done this myself but I didn't have the tools, it was in a spot I couldn't possibly do myself. So I took it to the dealer again and said - change this air sensor. They said why, this isn't going to do anything? I said - JUST. CHANGE. IT.

They did, it was like $200 total.

Drove car several more years, never had the issue again.

Moral of story, TLDR - Mr Goodwrench ain't got all the answers sometimes. See if you can find others on interwebs with same vehicle that have same issue. I bet you can.

Mr Goodwrench can AI now too I would assume........

Look what AI tells me today when I feed it info from my issue 10 years ago:

AI Overview
Understanding how a bad MAF sensor can cause a Pontiac engine to shut off
A failing or dirty mass air flow (MAF) sensor can certainly cause a Pontiac engine to stall or shut off.

Here's a breakdown of why this happens and what to look out for:
How the MAF sensor works
The MAF sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine and sends that data to the car's computer (PCM or ECU). The computer then uses this information to determine the correct amount of fuel to inject for optimal combustion.

What happens when the MAF sensor fails
When the MAF sensor is faulty or dirty, it can send inaccurate readings to the computer. This leads to an incorrect air-fuel mixture, causing various issues, including:

Rough idling or stalling: An imbalance in the air-fuel ratio, especially at low RPMs, can make the engine unstable and prone to stalling.

Engine shuts off while driving: If the MAF sensor sends completely wrong information or stops sending a signal altogether, the engine might not receive the right amount of fuel and air to continue running, leading to it shutting off.

Reduced power and acceleration: An inaccurate air-fuel mixture can cause the engine to struggle to produce power, leading to poor acceleration and a feeling of dragging or hesitation.
Check engine light: The computer will likely detect a problem with the MAF sensor and trigger the check engine light, storing a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in its memory (often codes like P0100 through P0103).

not using the right words. What I do find is fuel system or ignition related and not a #### thing I can do about those.

All I know is it ran find on Monday, didn't go anywhere after that. Tried to crank it Friday morning and it wouldn't crank. It would try real hard but never start. At that point I couldn't get it to turn all the way off, it was stuck in accessory mode, like I only half turned the key (this is push button).

I tried again a few hours later, still nothing but the attempts were starting to hurt the battery.

Called AAA on Saturday, hoping their battery man had a scanner, but he didn't. He further confirmed the battery wasn't the issue. Tried a few things, but nothing worked.

Tow truck man also tried a few things but got the same result and we could hear the battery starting to go at this point.

I had a BMW once that had a bad gyroscopic sensor.

Randomly it would lock up the right front wheel at highway speed because it thought I was in a slide or something.

That was fun at 70 mph on I526 coming home from work.

it's scary and ridiculous how many sensors modern vehicles have

and it is my firm belief that quite a few of them are more harmful than hurtful.

Sensors are absolutely GREAT ---- until one fails at the wrong time.
That gyroscopic sensor failure is terrifying.
