After traveling to Columbia a few times this week I'm thinking of a career change to becoming a cop and all I will be doing all day every day is pulling over slow left lane drivers.

My one interaction with the Columbia PD........

Years ago wife and I were driving down 277 towards Columbia and Bull Street. Clyburn had this elaborate pedestrian bridge built across 277 years ago connecting two housing projects, as people were being hit crossing the pseudo-interstate in that area.
So the bridge was built, millions spent, and people STILL walk across 277 all the time and don't use the bridge. So was about 11pm at night. Wife and I are driving by that stretch of 277. All of a sudden we see 6-8 people in the median standing RIGHT ON the yellow line. There's a car to my right and I had no choice, drove past them at about 60mph missing them by a good 8-10 inches, tops. One dude had crutches and threw his crutch in front of my car. Didn't hit the guy, but the crutch dented the front. Pulled off at the next exit and called the Columbia PD.
Two white cops came to the gas station where we were parked. Looked at the damage. Said "those ####### cross all the time there. Good thing you didn't hit one, he'd have done much worse damage. That area is the most dangerous in town". They both had a wad of Kodiak in their mouths the size of a gold ball. You could smell it, even before they spit it everywhere. Guy said if they find the guy on crutches, they'll wrap the other crutch around his neck. Then they left.
So......you may want to reconsider. If I had recorded that interaction, there would have been riots and lawsuits galore. Wife and I couldn't believe it.
I imagine things have changed since 2005-ish.

In your neck of the woods, all you have to do is be from the BFE town.

Only qualification.....
Usually the kids picked on in HS make great deputies (revenge factor), or the one who made Eagle Scout, that qualifies you for CHIEF.

From having a beer I had just placed under the tire of my car in the drive through thrown in my face and being charged with open container at 17 to being detained in a house where some girls I knew were house sitting and throwing a party at 16 before the neighbors called the cops to being pulled over doing 80 in a 30 and given a warning and told to go home because it was the end of dude's shift and he didn't want to process a stupid drunk 18 year old moron for DUI all night. Those were the highlights.
I once evaded a ticket by driving into a neighborhood and getting far enough ahead of the cop that I could park behind my science teacher's house and wait him out.
Kind of aero'd that up, but I had fun when I was a kid.
