Bring them in... starting to think it will help cement the conference if we're not gonna leave.

Their average tv viewership last year would have been 4th and 6th in the conference. The ACC is pathetic.

No - but I also don’t want a conference that pays Duke a full share to have less than 116k average viewers and has a smaller audience than Georgia Southern. I’ve only really started digging into some of the numbers and they’re appalling. It’s actually a miracle ESPN pays us what they do. The teams suck because they have no real fan bases. Missouri is the last place SEC team in viewership at 793k and is ahead of 8 ACC teams. BC, Va Tech, Virginia, and Virginia Tech have abysmal ratings. BC played three teams in the top 15 in viewership and still managed to be 70th with less than 325k average viewers. They might actually have the smallest fan base in all of college football. If Clemson and FSU can’t get out perhaps they could try to sway teams with better ratings on board then push for true viewership based distribution of money. That would make the ACC a suddenly attractive conference to stronger programs. And invite the Duke’s and Virginia’s to GTFO if they don’t like it. They’ve been hoarding cash from football rights and not reinvesting it, at all, in building their programs.

Here’s my prediction based on what I know
Clemson & FSU announces they’re leaving the ACC by 8/15/23–10%
Clemson & FSU announces they’re leaving the ACC by 8/15/24–70%
Clemson & FSU announces they’re leaving the ACC by 8/15/25–100%
There’s a reason why N. Dame was the strongest proponent of adding Stanford and Cal. ND’s vote would’ve become 3. They know to maintain independent status they have to have a home for their non-football sports. The ACC is the only power 5 (well now 4), conference that would let them be part time. Then again the Big12 might allow it, but the B1G and SEC would tell them to take a hike.

The teams like BC, Virginia, Duke, (and shockingly) Va Tech need to know they’re going to be relegated to lower group of 5 status for all the sports they’re so proud of if when the conference falls apart. No conference is going to vote to cut Duke in as a full share for their basketball prowess. The regular season means nothing revenue wise and the NCAA eats up a ton of the post season revenue. When that football money they’ve been using to prop up their basketball programs dries up, they will fade completely to irrelevance at everything. The only way for the ACC to survive is if it becomes the one conference that distributes the media revenue in direct relation to each teams percent of viewership in a season. Then it would be an attractive option for top tier teams because they would make out as well as the anyone in the Big10 or SEC. The also ranks will make much less, but it will still be enough to fund their basketball and Olympic sports at a competitive level - which they have demonstrated is all they care about. We have 4 teams ranked behind Air Force in viewership. It’s just pathetic.

BC and Duke… I agree. VPI could at least rate a Big 12 invite.
UVA will like end up with one of the big boys. Yes, they’re terrible at FB but are good at everything else including being a premier public institution and both the B1G and SEC would like to plant their flag in Virginia when the time is right.

Its pretty well accepted that bringing them in wont up the distribution levels in meaningful way. All it does is add some senseless west coast travel and more boring, bad football to the already laughably bad conference slate. Adding just for the sake of adding is pointless. Especially if all it does is lock us up even tighter while those jerkoffs in south bend laugh all the way to the bank.

It won’t up the distribution because ESPN doesn’t have to renegotiate the contract. I’m not lobbying for it. But the ACC has become a complete boondoggle. These schools that we’re dismissing would be 4th and 6th in total viewership in the ACC. 10 teams in our conference have worse tv ratings. A majority of those have half or less of their viewership. There is no salvaging the ACC as it exists without relative distribution of tv revenue. More than 1/2 of our conference are simply group 5 (more than a few low group of 5 )caliber programs. If they don’t want to end up in Conference USA or the AAC when Clemson and FSU bolt they better start getting really proactive.

The Big12 had five schools on the 2022 most watched list with more viewers than the 3rd place team in the ACC. The 6th team was 1k ahead of ACC's 3rd place. Surprised TCU was number one with 2.2m.

Vitiz - that is a great analysis! Crazy how this is not even being talked about among national TV pundits. Why just base revenue distribution on on field success? I know success and viewership goes hand in hand but it should definitely be considered to give those with both more incentive to stay. ESPN/Disney could definitely be happy with having a conference with more viewers. Brands like Clemson, FSU (eww), and (?) with have higher viewership regardless. Opening to the big San Fran market will only increase viewership to the successful programs.
And, to your point, if the smaller schools' issue with increased travel cost, they can GTFO

Clemson’s getting out…….PERIOD. Amazing the number of people on here that don’t get that…. Or refused to accept the reality of it.
Neither of those teams bring anything to the conference. Cal’s AD is 100s of millions in debt. The ACC only wants to do this because they want make it harder for us to leave. There is a reason why Clemson has voted no to this idea. The deadweight in this conference would love nothing more to add these two so that their undeserved and unearned gravy train continues at our expense.
Again…… No.

has the $%@$ to say they will become a full time member if we bring them on. Then maybe add SMU on top. Not sure about the remaining 2 in the PAC4.
Even then I'm not sure I would be down for all the complications with Scheduling and travel out West.

but make a simple deal. Let in Cal and Stanford in exchange for a GOR amendment that facilitates a reasonable exit. Then ND can own their own little conference.
One can dream.
