And there are a lot of good teachers; but their worthless, lazy and/or incompetent peers give them a bad name while simultaneously getting paid the same wage.
I have yet to meet a good teacher that opposes performance-based pay. They aren't scared that their students will test poorly and keep them from getting a raise.
Not that there aren't lazy people in all professions. It's just that it's easier to get rid of them.

well I say that for a couple of reasons..
#1. I am a teacher and it sucks seeing all the ######### who have to have someone else carry their sorry lazy selfs all the time..
#2. I have kids who have some sorry teachers as well.
