On a positive note, IN N Out Burger is moving their headquarters to Franklin, TN with plans for the Southeast. Hopefully people soon will never have to eat McD's again unless breakfast.

I worked at a service station (not just a gas station!) in the 8th grade. I’m 67 now. They raised the price to 30cents/gallon. I said they would never sale a single gallon at that price!

Yep. I remember that price and you could get your oil checked, free air for tires, windshield cleaned and gas pumped for that .19 a gal. $1.00 would get you 5 gallons with 5 cents change back.

Commuted to NGJC from G'ville for the 65-66 and 66-67 school years. At times the Mom&Pop stores above Greer would have gas wars. Lowest I recall was .17. Think the usual price was .32-.35.

1968, junior in HS. 2 gals and 3 guys just finishing our McDonald's after school meal in Greenwich, CT. We all blew our cash (59-89 cents each). Got into the split rear window WV and had no gas to get back to Stamford. Dug between and under the seats and came up with 34 cents. Went across the street to the Gulf station where the attendant let us borrow a gas can and got over 1 gallon of gas (28 cents/gal). Tooled back with rear tires bowed out with all that weight. Ahhh...those were the days!!!

Walked, with my other brother and a few other guys in the neighborhood almost every Saturday to the movie theatre. (There was almost always a western playing.) Mom gave us a quarter. 10 cents for the ticket. 5 cents for a coke. 5 cents for a candy bar. And, yes, we had to bring the nickel home. She didn't want us rotting out teeth.

I remember Scotties. They were basically mobile homes set up all across the south. A quarter bought you two burgers, fries and small coke. They looked like the old Crystal burgers and half a dollar would buy more than a teenage boy wanted. 1950s and 60s.

Those prices are exorbitant. I remember when McD's first opened in Greenville, SC, the reg. hamburger was 10 cents, cheeseburger was 15 cents, ff were 10 cents and soda was 10 cents. And gasoline was 23 cents gal. For a dollar. You could treat a date really well.i think the White Horse Road drive in theater .25 cents for adults and children under 12 was free. Don't remember concessions prices because we brought our own food.

I remember their commercials about getting Fries, a burger and drink and still get change from your $1 dollar bill. And you walked to a counter standing outside. There may have been a few tables with an umbrella outside. Finally they expanded to the indoor dining area.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories with my Dad. After we ate he would put me up front and my sister in the middle secure us to him with a belt. Then we would drive over to Spartanburg on his Cushman Motorcycle . It looked like what the GPD would use when they walked a beat and rode a motorcycle patrolling Greenville, SC.

Anybody remember when you could buy or register to win a banana seat bank at an Amaco or Essco now Exxon full service gas stations.

Who remembers recapped tires ??

Bulky 8 track tape players ??

Who joined the Columbia record club got your free albums and the moved on. Never paid a dime because many like me were 8 to 10 years old ??

Great days without a laptop, cell phone and all of this coming AI in the year or two ? All you needed was a bike, ball glove, football 🏈, helmet with no padding, wooden baseball bat, and a few other toys. We were happy as could be.

I went into a restaurant the other night a family group of 12 were eating out. Why ?? Everyone at the table was on an I-Phone. Kids, mom and dad. No wonder we have communication problems in society.

Wow, how life has changed from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s then technology hit.

Thinks to all who shared memories. Sometimes it’s good to look back 😊
