Oxymtazoline. It's in a nasal spray and used to clear blocked sinuses and the nasal passages. My nasal passages aren't block and my sinus issue are almost nonexistent.
I got a nose bleed Saturday late afternoon from simply blowing my nose. It wasn't hard and there was almost nothing to brag about. I have a lifelong injury from my first baseball game.
I was standing in the batter's box behind the batter and this little smartask was trying to show his skill by holding the fat part of the bat and getting a hit by striking the ball with the handle portion. His first swing was vicious, relative to boys under 9 yr/o and that bat slipped from his hands after he missed the ball, took exactly a 360 degree rotation end over end and the blunt fat end of the fat part of the bat hit me square dead center of my nose.
I stood there bent over, a fat little boy bleeding like a fat little pig. My nose has bled occasionally with nothing to cause it but a slight rub of my hand to shoo a gnat or without being touched.
This nose bleed with unprovoked. I always keep tissue, paper towels or napkins close enough to catch it and even some in the storage of my beds' cupboard. After 15-20 minutes of steady bleed and several different cloths I counted the drips off the end of my nose. One drip/two seconds. The total time my nose bled was 1 hour 45 minutes. I believed I was bleeding to death.
My son, TigerFurLife googled 'Best nose bleed remedy,' or something of the such and that medication came up. I did not use it as directed. I shot 5-7 good hard squirts up the side which was bleeding and a couple up the side which wasn't.
It took 15 seconds for the nightmare to end. I'm not of the old folks habit of trying to 'outsuffer, one another and apologize if the two health related stories seem all too regular for me. The other was of course low BP last week.
This was about the severity of my condition and the instant relief the nasal spray which included this chemical compound provided. Here is the one you go for if you share common nose bleeds:

That's Afrin. Never heard of using it for nosebleeds, but I will keep that

which is what I am. Even the 1/16th Cherokee blood in my is better than just being a hillbilly redneck these days.

Mountain Doctor who had the only cure for the common cold. Rest, plenty of liquids, a shot of her special elixir and it will be gone in 7-10 days. Miracle, I tell you.

What's 7 seconds when you've bled for near two hours, 5 Bucks? I'd have paid all I have and anything less than a grand would have suited me fine.
