How far in advance of travel is the best time to book tickets for a trip. Let's say, for example, a couple people I know very well needed to go from Aiken (Augusta) to Philadelphia. Let's say, and I'm just pulling this off the top of my head, departing April 10th and returning April 13th.
Have my "friends" missed the best window and need to book asap. Is there some sort of bot out there that tells you when the best time to book is?
TIA, no booobs to post.

You can monitor price changes and get alerts on Google flights....

Back in the day, there used to be pricing differences based on how far out, Saturday stay, etc... For the most part, all of that is gone now and it's simply a function of demand/loading. You could be 6 months out and a route be expensive and you can look 2 days out and find a bargin.

the older I get the more I pay for convenience so I book about 2 months out. It doesn't seem to hurt and I get better times at lower rates. The longer you wait, the only flights left at decent prices are the bad ones.

a year for this one app that searches... basically mistakes on hotels/flights/car rentals etc. You have to be ready to take whatever is available... and take it quick. Sometimes it is last minute... like the flight is the next day.
Anywho, he flew to Hawaii for under $100 and out west somewhere for $9. I do not know if he still has it or if it is still going on. I can check if you want.

I find that its always best to go directly through the airline

and no less than a month out. Every time I have used a 3rd party; something gets messed up and typically isn't worth the savings.
Plus, airline miles programs are so good, might as well book direct and get all the benefits.
Disclaimer, I have been Diamond with Delta for 18+ years. So I am a loyalist.

not include a carry-on and they say it doesn't guarantee a seat. Not sure what the implications of buying a ticket without an guaranteed seat is, but we opted to pay $90 more per person to have a carry-on and a seat.
This was through United but I believe I saw the same thing through American Airlines.
I used to fly Delta but that wasn't as much of an option out of Raleigh.

you can book with them at any time and if prices drop, you can immediately get a credit for the difference. You can do it multiple times up until the day of the flight, so there's no reason not to book as early as possible.

I book flights as far in advance as possible. If I know I’m planning a vacation, I usually book my flights first to lock in the schedule then build the trip from there.
On delta at least you can cancel and rebook if prices were to drop, but usually they don’t.
