ACC is finished

With Louisville becoming the 8th team needed to dissolve the GOR deal. Really gonna hate to leave the ACC just with the history but with the latest money reports coming out there’s no way around it if we are going to compete. Just hope we go to the SEC rather then the BIG10 would be able to keep matchups more regional. My biggest question is will Clemson tell the SEC that no matter what we are keeping Gathering at the Paw since it’s a tradition??

Us going to the SEC isn't any different than the SEC adding Texas when they already have Texas A&M. I don't see any reason why we wouldn't go to the SEC outside a few teams maybe protesting it. Athletically we would fit in very well. Academically we bring a lot of value there. Geographically makes a lot of sense as well (although it seems geography doesn't matter anymore). Already have set rivalries with some SEC teams as well. The math makes sense. Us going to the Big10 besides the SEC or staying in the ACC would be the biggest "huh?" to me personally.

I think the SEC FANS wouldn’t be the happiest to add us. I think with Texas, there will be 4 states with multiple teams. I can’t see that being an issue with the SEC though.

I have to think Neff feels good we have either B1G or SEC

I am also skeptical that the SEC is interested in us. We have a small alumni base, are not a huge national media brand, and are already within their footprint. I am thinking the B1G has made overtures and that is going to be our landing place. Regardless though, I don't think we would be leading the pack with FSU unless we felt VERY solid about where this was going.

You are mistaken...CLEM has a very good national brand. Look at the TV ratings. Yes, alumni base is currently smaller but CLEM has growing exponentially for many years now. Our academic standing os only going to grow. Watch in the next 5-7 years us getting into the AAU. Something would have to fall through for us to go to the B1G.
We feel solid b/c we offer a ton...its as simple as that. Dabo has told you....

TV ratings are a "what have you done for me lately"

If Clemson drops off, which is inevitable one day, our draw will be very average. You best believe the SEC is not only going to be reviewing and assessing the last ten years of data. We also don't add anything to the SEC footprint which I think is still an important factor. UNC and Virginia Tech have that going for them.

Once again it has nothing to do with footprints. It’s about power and money. Eyeballs bring money. No one watches VT and definitely not UVA. CU and FSU are the most watched in conference and in the nation. That brings money through TV. Then by adding a CU or FSU you bring in a power brand. We are going to be a consistently good team. Yeah there may be years we aren’t top ten but more than likely we will continue to be a top 25 team.

They have staying power as a national brand over decades. Yes we have been a big draw over the last 10 years but I guarantee we were not during the Bowden doldrums. Those will return one day, like it or not.

It adds another national powerhouse football program. The more each conference has the more value they bring. Most importantly we have recently won multiple Natty's and the coach that led us to those likely will be here for another decade plus.

2/3?? If we joined the SEC we would be the 8th best/biggest brand right ahead of Auburn and texas A&M. You have to look beyond the past 10 years.

For the love of God. Since 2015 of course we are the hot thing now. I’m talking about all things even and over the history of college football. You obviously were not a fan in the 90s when people couldn’t even tell you where Clemson was. When we come back down to earth we would be middle of the pack in the SEC in terms of importance. Welcome to college football. It’s clearly new to you.

I don't think you are serious, but...Clemson's TV market reaches into 3 states and is much larger than the Columbia market. That's just one reason. Lol.

We go to the SEC? Tha, to many, would seem initially like the obvious choice. But, if you step back and view these two Super Conferences (formerly known as the SEC or B1G in name only), way better for the B1G to skim the best teams in the South for TV revenue, along with becoming a Nat’l Conf vs regional (USC, UCLA,) and then maybe Oregon..
Can one imagine splitting the Virginias and Carolinas with each Conference getting a team. Clemson, FSU, maybe Miami and Ga Tech to the B1G. I can see it happening.
ACC much further in line with B1G both Academically and athletically (broader sports offerings in Olympic sports)

would look forward to sitting outside in November and December to watch games in places like Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. I know I wouldn't.
There is a reason why they don't play bowl games in those places.

As DavidHood® reported, one possible reason for the BIG is that they have lacrosse and men's soccer--the $EC doesn't......just something to consider.
Ultimately, this is the BOT's call.

hinted at from the SEC for Clemson OR FSU. Of course, the SEC couldn't come out and do that as long as these teams are in the ACC, that would be tampering (wink wink).
I personally would much rather join the SEC than the BIG, but, as I said, we can't invite ourselves, one or both of those conferences have to extend an invite.

Who knows but I figure the biggest reason for the SEC to snag up Clemson is to play keep away from the Big10. They don’t want a Southern powerhouse falling into the Big10’s lap. Their brand is Southern football, so why let Big10 go out and grab a jewel that is sitting in your own backyard.

I had just as soon take FSU and a few other brands in the ACC and go to the Big 12. Sick of the bottom football feeders in the ACC weakening our schedule like Duke, Wake, BC, Syracuse. At least we get to play TCU, TT Okie St, Baylor, BYU, WVU along with the ACC schools brands that go with us.

I share your frustration with the ACC, and respect your opinion, but I’m not convinced a move to the Big 12 helps Clemson.
Geographically we would be much worse.
Financially we would be worse.
Plus, I’m pretty sure there’s no real advantage there athletically or academically.
In general, I believe it’s either the BIG10/SEC or bust for Clemson.
Go Tigers
