So far 1/3 of our schedule has been against cupcakes. It will be interesting to see what the numbers are at the end of the year. There is NO question the turnovers killed us in the two losses. Those problems don’t show up in yds per play or total yards.

Yeah it will be good to compare for sure.

At least this post is on record and we can see. Also, we should expect some progress too.

You folks have fun comparing schedules, here's a list...

of murderer's row defenses TCU faced in '22.

I don't totally disagree.. But you need that Artavious Scott

Type guy. Shorter, thick, fast Fast FAST, and can hit an edge and turn that corner. Where's the guy?

I linked it for the list of defenses TCU faced in 2022.

As for Art Scott, Williams and Brown are both quicker than Art Scott's 4.6, 40. His lack of speed at his size is probably what kept him on practice squads.

Make no mistake, I <3 Art Scott, great college football player with stones.

I get it. Not knocking your post. I love stats.

Just thinking of wet continue this screen pass, we need a "guy" that I just haven't seen. I mean, I'm leaning hard on Tyler Brown as WR1 at this point. Maybe even Stellato (which I've been waiting to see for sure!) Hard to strike gold on 2 star renfrow types every cycle.

So many broken components (looking at you OL) on what we've me to expect recently. But, I've seen much worse Clemson Football, so, Long term, I've also got much love where we've come. Just hurts to continue some slide back.

Maybe he was overrated? We will see over time.

So you think his scheme caused the turnovers? The plays He called caused the turnovers?
Dabo and the crew coached them and told them to turn it over?

This team is good! Maybe not great yet but very good and a little snake bit. Unlucky whatever you wanna call it. Still love watching them play. Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think of how that'd read without ALL the mistakes this year

Oct 8, 2023, 10:29 PM

I'm not sure where I'm supposed to see this metric in action, but tough sledding right now.

Too mistake prone, or other teams have really gotten better. I'm voting the former

IDK, he had a 3 year starter in Max Duggan come in game 1...

in 2022, not a young QB making his 2nd start on the road at Duke.

Hard to say. Tcu scoring avg was 41 b4 uga game, ours is now 31 after wake game. Irregardless, stats can tell a lot of generalities but you really have to dig into each game. TCU played against (in general) different defenses and schemes. Can't really tell you if it was the right call or not. What and when did Duggan run it vs when did we. So, too many variables. The Only one that matters is that w/l column.

Yes, the screen percentage is probably consistent with ALL teams. Pro and college.

A lot of these are wrong though. Anybody who has watched our games knows we aren't averaging anywhere remotely close to 9 yards per pass attempt. And you say Clemson's stats are thru 5 games, which would be weird since we've played 6. The rushing stats are thru 6, and the passing and scoring are wrong no matter what, but closer to what it was after 5 games, so don't know if you meant to say 6 games or meant to list stats thru 5. TCU's passing ypg is also wrong. Here's the real stats of the categories you listed (thru 6 games because we've played 6 games), and rearranged for easier comparison. cfbstats.com is the source I'm using

rushing ypg
TCU -- 193.27
Clemson -- 188.17

rushing yds/att
TCU -- 5.12
Clemson -- 4.85

passing ypg
TCU -- 261.7
Clemson -- 249.2

passing yds/att
TCU -- 8.6
Clemson -- 6.7

points/game
TCU -- 38.8
Clemson -- 32.2

Every number is worse, but nothing drastic other than passing y/a (which is a huge difference) and ppg (which is partly due to bad FG kicking)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not good

Guy making too much money to not call aggressive offensive plays especially when defense overall is on the decline

That is not a huge difference at all. Maybe TCU did not have dropped passes. Either way it pretty comparable one to another. I do wonder how much the clock not stopping and taking possessions away is effecting the game and the stats?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's no way we're averaging 9 YPA

Oct 9, 2023, 7:00 AM

Cade is at 6.5

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I keep reminding myself, the difference is....

Points allowed by turnovers.

Clemson is 6-0 and ranked in the top 4, probably higher, without those 43 points given up as a result of turnovers.

Wake didn't directly get points from turnovers, but that was more due to they didn't have as good an offense as Duke or FSU. They had 2 great opportunities and didn't cash in.

I sat there and watched the game in person (thanks again, Hank) Saturday. It is frustrating watching a team that seems to have not "found itself" on offense yet. Seemed like the offense is having to work too hard. If I can use some analogy, "It seems like the offense is more like my Honda CR-V when climbing a hill than it is like a Ferrari or even a Cadillac climbing the same hill."

I can't help but wonder how much of that is due to those stupid turnovers.

Yes turnovers kill! Also on Saturday poor field position changed the play calls. But once Clemson said lets take what they are giving us they were in control and ran the ball well.
