I don't expect Miami to ever be great again

Oct 1, 2021, 7:30 AM

They may have a good year every once in awhile but they'll never compete for national championships again. Times are different now and Miami just doesn't get the support and backing needed to be a serious contender.

I’m not so sure. If there’s one thing to be learned from Dabo, it’s the effect getting the RIGHT coach can have on a program.

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

No. They will not great ever again. Not consistently. No one wants to play in front of a half filled stadium. They need to build an on campus stadium or something close. Apparently it takes forever to get to the stadium.

Hard to say that yet. The effects of NIL are just now

showing up in recruiting. The college football landscape could conceivably look very different in three years time.

Miami will never be a great program or consistent winner

Oct 1, 2021, 8:23 AM

until they stop dwelling on their past "glory days" as the answer to their woes. The Jimmy Johnson Miami culture will never be allowed to exist again in college football and Miami's attempts to continually try and manufacture a modern day version of it is killing that program.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times - the best thing Miami could do is throw away the turnover chain, the touchdown knuckles, and all that stupid false bravado/swag. They need a complete revamp of their culture and Manny Diaz ain't the one to do it. It is hard to have a bright future when the program and it's fan base are stuck in a past that will never return...

It seems that since Butch they have the same issues every year: talented roster that vastly underachieves. I agree that they're constantly trying to revive the "swag" persona and that leads to them recruiting a certain type of player. It would probably do them good to have some blue collar/high character type players on their roster who don't throw in the towel after the first defeat that takes them out of the national conversation.

It seems that the swag always gets in the way of discipline

Oct 1, 2021, 8:47 AM

They do something great on the field, then collapse right after it. One step forward and two steps back.

Miami will not return to their glory days with the new University President. He says that the sports programs are on their own and there will be no University support.

disagree, all it takes is the right coach

Oct 1, 2021, 3:35 PM

And when they get the right one, they could be a top 10 team again. There's countless examples of programs that rose up after decades of mediocrity, like VaTech under Beamer, FSU under Bowden, KState under Snyder, Clemson under Dabo, etc.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Naw, it takes more than a good head coach.

Oct 1, 2021, 10:50 PM

It takes the Prez, Board, AD, alums/fans and a chit ton of money and dedication with conscious decisions to make it happen. Don't tell me that Nick Satan or Dabo can coach Vanderbilt to a natty just by being the HC there.

You're so wrong it's not even funny . . .

Oct 1, 2021, 10:58 PM

I've known guys who coached Vandy to a national title just by being there, on their couch, with that PlayStation controller. They built a culture, I tell you!!!

But Coastal Carolina can? There’s nothing new under the sun. Miami will come back around at some point but why do we care? Their greatest years were as independents or Big East who played 2-3 good teams a year and a bunch of mediocre ones. It’s a great recipe to get really good teams to a big game at the end of the year and maybe play for all the marbles.
