Monte is truly handling this with class

This quote really stood out to me-
“Whoever gets this job, I’m going to support them however I can,” Lee said. “I’m not going to be a distraction or be in the way or anything like that. I want the next leader of the program to know that they’ve got a great group of kids coming back and they’ve got a great group of kids coming in.”

Had the exact same thought, and I feel sure that is why he threw that out there, I won't be a distraction to the next leaders of this program. A picture of Jack instantly entered my mind!!!

Ha, yup...whether he meant it or not, that was a shot at Jack. Don't think CML loved going on a first date and having the longtime ex-boyfriend at the table next to him at the restaurant.

Legget in a recent interview eluded to the fact that Dan radakovich asked Tanner who to hire for a coach before he even considered firing leggett, or something to that effect. Don't have a link but the article is out there some where.
But coach Lee just from me good luck sir wish you the best of luck in the future.

I don’t understand the animosity for Jack Leggett here. Was Bill Wilhelm being an ex-girlfriend when he came to baseball games? Stop being ######## to the last coach that sent us to the CWS guys. Plus if we are going to hire one of Jack’s former assistants this animosity in this fan base has to go away.

I agree with you. The fact is, Leggett’s termination was poorly thought out and executed.

Huge difference. Wilhelm wasn't let go. He retired and was instrumental in grooming Leggett to take over. I, for one, want none of Leggett's coaching tree. Start over with entirely new blood. That includes Bradley LeCroy. He's done a great job for us but it's time to move on. Rob Vaughn at Maryland would be my first call. I like Jarrett at ND but if he is successful at Clemson, FSU will call him home. Success at Clemson, most likely, would be at the detriment of FSU. Bakich has been at Michigan for 10yrs and has just recently been successful. We just fired a guy in his 7th yr so I don't see us being patient for another 7-8 for success. Maryland coach is in his 5th year and started winning in his 3rd. One of the most respected recruiters in the game. Zero ties to any big programs that could poach him on allegiance. He's young and relatable to players. He's actually the youngest HC in D-1 baseball.

The best HC's can never be so loyal to their friends, or buddies, or someone he has hired along the way to a point that it drags them down. When expatiations aren't what you believe they should have been, you slept while the problem was growing. And I do believe that, and it was late in my life before I learned that lesson, and hopefully Monte learns that through this experience!!!
Monte Lee was successful everywhere he coached, with the one exception of that being Clemson. He didn't forget how to coach just bc he came to Clemson, so I think there had to be a problem somewhere that he overlooked, or someone that he just didn't want to let go. But Monte will have to search all his decisions, and indecisions to find what he should have done different, or someone he should have replaced, but just didn't. There was something that led to him failing at Clemson, IMO.

Think he was throwing a little "shade" at Leggett on his way

out, by saying that HE will not be a distraction to the next coach, or be hovering about. Leggett is STILL doing that.

out, by saying that HE will not be a distraction to the next coach, or be hovering about. Leggett is STILL doing that. So you don’t think they will try to hire one of Jack’s former assistants? I think Clemson has screwed this all up by not mending fences or giving an olive branch to Jack. There has been a disconnect with this program, and Jack Leggett. If there is a disconnect between those two it resonates to the alumni that played under Jack and the former assistant coaches under Jack like Kevin O’Sullivan. I would love to see Jack at the stadium more even if he isn’t the coach just like Bill Wilhelm did when he sat behind home plate after he retired. They need to fix this problem.

In fact, my money is on "they were friends". I have my reasons for thinking that and will just say I saw it with my own two eyes. And I think that is GREAT!

He represented our program well, he just didn't win enough.
I'm glad to hear that his experience at Clemson was positive, and that Neff handled the meeting and firing with class.
I am confident Monte will land on his feet. He's a good coach who will have more success.

Well said. He achieved (literally) perfection academically and it's tough to let someone like that go.

Lee has always been a class act. I’m sure he’ll land on his feet. Clemson’s schedule is brutal. The ACC is tough. Add in the UGA and the USC series as well as quality local programs like Coastal and CofC that we face every year and theres not a lot of gimme wins. Not to mention scholarship/common market/endowment limitations.
