On a different note, will we still need a drivers license once these are the norm. The DMV may go the way of candle makers and coal miners.

jay walking, wonder if she stepped out in front of the vehicle. If she stepped out in front, did the vehicle attempt to react. Was there a sensor failure (doubtful, there are backups of backups)? What was the traffic pattern and traffic like at the time?
I'm genuinely curious about this.

I think we should have automated vehicle only interstates.

But don't think we should have them on local streets.

I'd like to see automated vehicles whose sole purpose was to run people down. This would be a fantastic method of population control. Most towns have too many people already, and these driverless cars could be the answer to this vexing problem. Maybe even identify people that need to be run over and have the car go to their homes and wait for them to go to the mailbox.

buys anything other than a Toyota version they're nuts. Chrysler/Jeep has software that's been proven to be fairly easily hackable, Ford has steering wheels coming off for no reason, and GM is well, GM....Yet people want to trust these things to autonomously drive them around? Good luck and God speed to them.
It'd be a lot easier to just start treating these cell phone zombies like drunk drivers and let there be some serious consequences to their idiocy. Although I'm not sure how much worse it can get than dying in a fiery car crash, maybe take the internet away from them?

In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes.
Mar 19, 2018, 3:41 PM
|
|
Almost 129,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for non-fatal crash-related injuries in 2015.*
There was also a safety driver in the autonomous car when this accident occurred. I don't give a crap about automated cars, but this incident isn't exactly a game changer imo.
