Fire destroyed the lodge and virtually every building on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Several years ago I took my parents there to celebrate their 50th anniversary. 2 nights at Bryce, 2 nights at Zion, and 2 nights at north rim.

I won't go into detail, but jsut say, anyone who has been to the north rim will sense the gravity of the loss and the sadness that comes with it.

Thanks for the heads up. We went to the Grand Canyon 20 years ago but I don't recall going to the North Rim.

A tragic loss of a beautiful 1937 stone and timber lodge. A real bummer.

the day before we played Alabama in Glendale for the national championship. So sad and unfortunate that it was destroyed.

That's sad. It was a beautiful place. Went there Oct. 8, 2018 after a trip to all the national parks in Utah. Highly recommend that trip!

The day at the north rim was an interesting day. Got there and the place was fogged in. You couldn't see the lodge from the parking lot. Everybody was in the lodge hoping it would clear off. I told my wife that we drove all the way there, we were going to at least walk out on the overlook area. We were the only ones out there, when all of a sudden a little wind started up and the clouds began to brake apart and there it was... the view from the north rim. Everybody in the lodge started yelling and clapping. We spent the rest of the day driving around the north rim until it started snowing as we were leaving. Great day!

The lodge is a terrible loss.

We were supposed to be staying there next May. I’m not sure how that’s gonna shake out.

I can't imagine them rebuilding, including all the service buildings...

...by next May. If you haven't been to Zion or Bryce you could try there. The lodges inside the park may be booked up, but you could probably get something outside the park. The other options are Moab, UT. It is right between Arches and Canyonlands national parks. We spent 5 days there and loved every minute.

There is also Capitol Reef NP in southern Utah. It is less visited than the other Utah parks, but it is still a great place to visit. We spent 3 days there a few years ago.
