Congrats on another beatdown - 8 years in a row...

Sep 7, 2022, 2:27 AM

Not surprised we got spanked again.

Clemson will probably win the ACC this year. I think DJU is a little better than last year, but not spectacular. You guys have a great defense. And contrary to alot of current views, defense still wins championships.

I think this is Collins' last year. The schedule is brutal. And he simply hasn't been able to get the guys ready week-after-week. EArly on, he could use the rebuilding from Paul Johnson's players excuse. But that's old news now. He's in year 4. By now, we should be seeing results, and I see nothing.

Not sure on the depth but GT has some good players I’m guessing aquired in the portal. It’s all about recruiting. If he is able to bring in some great recruits I would say give it some time but if he cannot cutting ties would be my suggestion. I thought the talent level was a lot better personally, but again you need good 2’s as well.
Good luck the rest of the way. Thinking you all may surprise some teams.

I was impressed with your defense.

Few coaches can build a three deep defense in four years. The first year is almost a missed recruiting cycle. Dabo had 12 recruits his first year. What y'all had was a total rebuild from a tired obsolete offense. The portal might help a well developed team become a great team but you can't rebuild an entire system from the portal. Imo, it takes 5-6 years to build a program from the ground up.

One of my first post here after the game regarded your defense. Our folks complained that our WRs couldn't get open as if your defense had nothing to do with it. I was impressed at the talent and fight you guys had on that side of the ball. Imo, your first team played well enough to win the game but the lack of development in your bench was typical of the average team.

If we had your QB last season we would have made the playoff. He has problems, some of the same as our starter but with his speed and excellent decision making he can overcome the issues. What's your young Oline suppose to do, block a three deep defense all game? You know that over the last decade our defense has been outstanding and nothing has changed but the names on the jerseys.

I believe GT has the potential of being one of our main competitors in the ACC in two years and I believe your team will surprise a lot of people this season. I think your coach has a lot of potential and I don't think he's had time to do the job yet.

I won't grieve if you fire your coach, that means it will be easier to add 3-5 more Ws to our W/L record against you guys.

We'll be favored against Western Carolina and Dook this year. We'll be lucky to go 4-8.

I think Collins has upgraded the talent. But he doesn't know how to coach them up. We have guys that loaf during the game. I saw it the other night.

I agree that Collins had a tough job to rebuild. But by now, it's clear that he's not the man for that job.

I think GT is an an unenviable spot.

Frankly, between academic restrictions, a relatively small, ambivalent fanbase and the fact that the school sits between Clemson and Georgia, there is just little football oxygen left to spark the flame of a great reemergence.

With the ever growing population in Georgia and the South

Sep 7, 2022, 6:49 AM

in general, not sure why schools like GA Tech don't expand enrollement. I get that schools desire to be exclusion / elite blah blah, but state schools need to serve the population of the state and if that means adding more students, then do so. Plenty of B1G schools are large and also "prestigious".

I agree to an extent but the population growth in the area

Sep 7, 2022, 7:05 AM

isn't really matching the GT academic profile. It is primarily black Chicagoans' who are leaving Illinois and moving to 'THE ATL'. Of that population there may be a demand for greater collegiate opportunity in the area but GT probably isn't having their doors beaten down.

GT is a high population of Asian and Indian students(who don't really have a passion for football) and typical white nerds.

I believe the demand at schools such as Ga State is probably on a greater increase.

While there are plenty of recruits to go around...

considering that 28 is the maximum number any school can take during any one recruiting year, it isn't just Georgia and Clemson against whom GT competes. You have to include schools like Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and FSU as well. For GT, that's a tough sell right now.

best trick a coach could have in his pocket. You can’t just buy that overnight. The atmosphere has changed a bit but you just need a coach that sees it that way to sell it. GT has a lot to offer a student on so many fronts.

And—like us in basketball—if you win, the fans show up. Unfortunately, I’m from Georgia and we’re not great sports fans by default.

We're still down 15 games in the series ...

and we're still bitter about all those home games you had from 1902 - 1973 ...

You may wanna grab something to bite on. Its gonna be another long decade.

They always needed a transition coach

Sep 7, 2022, 8:37 AM

You need 4 years to fix it and Year 5 you start getting asked about progress. That is hard to write off. But a new coach has the gift of free excuses that take the pressure off. Geoff is the scapegoat that resets the foundation—for better or for worse.

that Paul Johnson left in his wake. It will take him (or someone else as the case may be) some time to undo the recruiting damage from that flexbone option offense.

I thought that QB was pretty tough

Sep 9, 2022, 10:47 AM

He will give normal defenses a lot of problems. I think we are stacked with more speed than we’ve ever had on D
