I don't care if he is 4'5" - Want to get back to seeing our RB's able to take it to the house on any given play. Just the threat will open up the offense. Wonder if Trevor Etienne is in the market for transfer portal.

Well, Shipley runs in the 4:4's so there is that. What's the matter you upset because you cant gripe and complain about DJ anymore?

Sorry, no way is Shipley 4.4. Maybe in high school. But not able Shipley - runs tough as nails - he is Thunder - I miss Lightning. Etienne was Thunder and Lightning in one.

It’s not the 40 time that’s the most important, it’s the first 2 steps (acceleration). Those first 2 are what really pop through the line or make defenders miss their angle. Sometimes that shows on the 40 time, but not always.
Tavien Feaster comes to mind as someone who didn’t have a quick burst but fast track time.
Etienne, while fast top speed, was even quicker in his acceleration. Sammy’s burst was elite too.

Shipley is fast, and he might have even run 4.4 in street clothes but I've seen him caught from behind too many times to say he's 4.4 in pads. He is fast enough to bust big yardage plays but if there's a guy with similar speed anywhere close he gets run down. That's not saying he's a bad back, he's a great back and I love his power and no quit running style but he's not in the league of CJ or Etienne.

Will Shipley does not run that, and anyone stating so has not watched him run the ball this season.
Will is shifty and has his positives, but breakaway speed is not one of them

Are Shipley and Mafah NFL talents? If not, could be 2 more years.

Spiller was NFL talent, but probably not any more. He's gotta be mid 30s by now. In his day though he was 4.4 fast.

No he wasn't. Ellington actually ran a 4.61 at the Combine, which I'll agree was a bad time, but he was not a guy who was even close to running in the 4.3's.

things. Sure Ford was faster than Spiller on the track; but on the field with pads, Spiller carried the pads better and was faster.

He pulled his hamstring on the run. Just watching them both, Shipley doesn't have the speed Ellington had.

Spiller was faster on the field than on a clocked 40 time. He was the fastest on the field i've ever seen. I think it was the adrenaline that made him sub 4.4

How does CJ running a 4.27 40 yard dash prove your point that he was faster on the field than during 40s? Are you suggesting he ran a sub 4.2 40 on the field? I agree CJ was the most electric player I've ever seen. He was truly lightning (as was Ford who was virtually identical in speed). But I think he was fast in both scenarios.

Ellington ran a 4.49 stopwatch but ran a 4.51 at Pro Day. He definitely had poor time at Combine, he was faster than 4.6, and he could hit the hole with power and house it with speed.
I just don't think he ever got the praise he deserved at Clemson because he had Spiller in front of him for couple yrs.

Correct! CJ was probably our fastest RB ever. The RB that was much faster than he ever got credit for was Andre Ellington.
Jacoby Ford was the fastest player I can confirm I have seen in person. I think Youngblood, Woolford and Chansi Stuckey were some of the fastest players I can recall.
Interesting sidenote: Chansi is WR coach at ND.

Shipley does not have the size and strength to make in the nfl. Just my opinion. He’s great out of the backfield has a pass catch (great improvement this year), but he still gets blown up on pass protection.

Dude, guys like Travis Etienne and CJ Spiller do not just fall off of trees. There's a reason both of them were first-round draft picks at a position that doesn't usually produce first-round draft picks because the half-life of a RB in the NFL is so durn short.
Honestly, the guy Shipley most reminds me of is Andre Ellington, maybe even a little more physical. He's a complete back who's good in pass-pro, catches extremely well out of the backfield, slashes it north-south between the tackles, and sees the cutback lane extremely well and knows how to use blockers to set him up. And while he can hurt you with his speed, exactly like Ellington he looks like more of a sub-4.5 guy than a sub-4.4 guy, which are...rare. And Mafah reminds me of any number of guys I've seen come out of Alabama, or Nick Chubb at Georgia.
We've got two really, really good RB's who are going to be playing Sundays. Ask 99% of teams in America if they'd take a stronger version of Ellington and a guy like Nick Chubb, they'd absolutely take it.

Ellington was fast and more of a one cut guy. Don't remember him getting run down once he got free. Love Shipley, but lacks Ellington's home run ability.
