I think the key is every few years landing a Deshqun Watson or Trevor Lawrence. When you have those guys on the roster you don't need the top class.

Yep. SCAR won the first matchup in 1896, and it's the only time they ever led the series. Clemson won the 2nd matchup to tie the series, took the lead by winning game 3 (the 1898 game), game 4, and game 5. By the time we had 10 games played, Clemson led 7-3 in the series and never looked back. At the 20-game mark it was Clemson's lead by 14-5-1.
This despite that fact that the first 57 games (up until 1960) were ALL played in Columbia.

Indeed, one would think that being the winningest FB HC without ALSO being the losingest FB HC would be appreciated more. Indeed, Dabo has 15 more wins that the next winningest coach (Frank Howard), while having less than half of the total number of losses that the losingest coach (also Frank Howard...who basically held those marks due to sheer longevity and being slightly above average at 0.580 winning percentage).
We have some HC's in other sports who are also the winningest HC in their sport's history here, but are also the losingest coach, again due to sheer longevity and being slightly above average (with winning percentages below several of their predecessors).
Dabo's overall record should be seen as so much the better for that.
Dabo's winning percentage (.793) is below John Heisman's tenure at Clemson (0.833), so he's got room to improve.

I was 5 years old when Danny brought that national title home. I had come to the conclusion I’d never see a national championship in my lifetime. Coach Swinney brought us two. Despite the NIL/portal era we are a legitimate contender to win it all this year. These Debbie Downers must be some of the most miserable people around their families and in the workplace.

According to some on here. If Dabo is the 3rd highest paid coach, our recruiting should always be in the top 3. And we should always finish the season ranked within the top 3. And we should never lose to a team whose coach is paid less or doesn’t have the same facilities we have. See how this works. He’s just not earning his paycheck.
For those who don’t know me, check your meters before going all crazy.

The evaluation of talent has been great under Dabo. Finding 3 star players that had great careers. Most of the 4-5 star players have been as advertised. Yes they have made some mistakes but they are better than most.

We lose a guy to a team that paid him a small fortune, and our panty waste fans lose their minds. Of course we also have the usual crying from JK, the head troll (head being the key word).

I think it might have humbled Dabo a bit because he’s really picked it up since then.

Im not sure it was a disaster according to the data.

Average player rating:
2025: 90.48 (Disaster) 2026: 90.91 (Humbled/Picked It Up)
Quantity played a large part in the #26 composite ranking for 2025, we simply didn’t have much room that cycle. Dabo has only had two smaller classes in his entire tenure at Clemson. There is always room for improvement though, as we lost some guys we wanted I’m sure.
