How would the Clemson of today fare against UGA?

Not looking ahead to 2024 season opener but do we even compete as things stand today? What needs to change ahead of season opener?

The biggest issue is that our receivers can’t get open, which makes Klubnik, the O-line and the offense look bad. Everything is forced and difficult. The defensive front seven is strong enough to keep us in striking distance. I know the secondary got torched against Kentucky, but Mike Reed will get them up to speed this offseason. Receivers not getting open is 100% my top concern

Seemed like 1 inexperienced kid gave up a few plays. He will gain alot from film study and time he got to play. Will probably be second string next year so more time to learn. I think our study and will be fine next year.

The full strength 2023 Clemson defense would keep Clemson in any football game you could possibly schedule. Offense of the last few years may not do enough to win it, but this year’s defense gives us a shot against any team in college football.

I see Uga play live every year. Not that that is overly important, but from my experience the difference in speed size athleticism and physicality is pretty marked.
Not that Clemson could not beat them on a very good day but they are easily two touchdowns better than us right now strength versus strength…JMO

Full strength. Good game and we lose by 3-10 at the end of the day.

Not well
Cade will likely be running for his life week 1, unless Luke can work miracles on the OL.

They have to roll him out more. 2016 championship that we lost, Bama was overwhelming our OL on passing plays and we made that adjustment with Deshaun. The QB can even be the player in motion pre-snap.

Clemson beats them by 3 touchdowns!!
Go Tigers!
Before you say be realistic I am just as realistic as you!! Maybe more.
I saw Georgia play all year and they are not the greatest team ever that’s why they lost to Alabama who also is not the greatest team ever!
Georgia played against the 3rd and 4th team FSU players they should have won by 60.. no big deal.

If Goodwin turns the defense loose and Beck gets knocked around early, game on.
And one thing about those big ole UGA defensive players, they wear out after about 4 or 5 consecutive plays. Quick tempo and no substitutions will pay dividends in the 2nd half.

They beat Kentucky 51-13. Our D would could hold them to maybe 38 and our offense could score maybe 24, So two touchdown loss I think.

I agree it would be close but not sure we could pull it off. I hate we have all these op outs now. It just makes post season seem so irrelevant. Teams that don't make the playoff have so many players now that just don't care. I thank Ga and FSU had a lot of motivation issues not making the final 4. But FSU just could not overcome theirs. Georgia did.

If we played UGA right now I would expect them

to be favored by around 17. That's assuming we would have our full strength defense, not the one we fielded against UK.
UGAs offense is just light years ahead of ours at the moment.

Could we beat them on a good day? Absolutely, but they probably win 8 outta of 10 games.

UGA looks exactly like Clemson did 4-7 years ago. So reverse the rolls, would you have picked UGA over Clemson from 2015-2020? QB, O-line , lack of speed and blocking at WR. And how much will losing a 1st rounder in the defensive backfield hurt, along with Trotter, and over 15 years of experience on the Defensive Line. Nothing is impossible, but I doubt many would wager their next paycheck on Clemson with a 7 or 8 point Vegas line

We finished middle of the pack in the worst power 5 conference

We would absolutely get boat raced. Defense can hang, but our offense this year doesn't even deserve to be on the same field as uga.

The “worst P5 conference” has more OOC wins than any other conference. The ACC was surprisingly solid this year. Maybe the best overall since 2016.
But continue to use UGA vs FSU jv as a barometer game I guess.

We would lose. Is that the answer you are looking for? They have better talent right now. That’s how this deal works. It won’t be the same for Ga or any school forever. Getting good recruits and they have a good coach. Tip your hat we were there a few years back. Still love my Tigers though, and will be there while they try to make it back up that mountain.
