Case in point...Prime Meridian.

It's in Greenwich, UK at the royal observatory. Fine. We visited. Got pics along the prime meridian.

ONLY to return home and learn the line drawn at the observatory, is....well, not right. The actual real Prime Meridian, is out in the parking lot. 200+ feet from the one they have marked. Seems modern satellites, and measurements have shown it to be about 200 feet from the place they had marked. Oh well. They need to put a brass line thru the parking lot.

Everything on this page is BS.

When folks say, "You'll regret that in the morning", I just sleep until noon, because I'm a problem solver.

From the "southernmost point in the US" buoy thing, and it ain't right either.

I would gamble a ton of those type markers are off. The four corners plaque is wrong too. It's like 2000 feet off. 😁

The better technology has gotten, the more precise they can measure. Seems feasible

Hardly seems fair to nit pick over 200 feet using modern satellites etc.

Apparently the one in the parking lot is officially the International Reference Meridian to distinguish it from the Prime Meridian

I think it was 200 yards.. And that's fine to keep the line where they put it

But they could at least mention hey, over on the other side of the parking lot is another line that's more accurate.

The atomic clocks were cool too.

You can go to Google Earth and see the line. It's on the other side of the parking lot.

Prime Meridian is longitude zero. By definition.

inconsequential to your sightseeing and accept it for what it was, a visit to the prime meridian which must have been one of the most boring nerdy sightseeing trips ever taken.

It's an arbitrary line. So it doesn't really matter does it?***
