About coaching Not deciding this game..correct me if needed

Sep 22, 2014, 8:33 AM

Isn't Choice considered our "power" back ?

And wasn't he a QB in hs ?

2 things.... If he's the stronger RB, why was the track star RB in on the short yardage play at the end of the game when all we needed was basically a few kneel downs and a field goal ?

And why didn't we put Choice under center for 3 sneaks...and even if stopped then another extra point length field goal ?

Did Lakip have them shook up that bad ??

Seems like they forget the skill sets at times.

Breaking tendancies ??

Dang...we love a run over guard on 3/4 of our running plays - just not from the 1/2 yard line.....IDK

When does anyone ever put a RB under center?

Sep 22, 2014, 8:38 AM

Wildcat sure, but there's probably a reason you never see a RB under center - they probably aren't accustomed to handling snaps and fumble a lot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True...but we're talking about a converted QB....not just

another RB.

When he was a QB in high school the previous year?***

Re: When he was a QB in high school...from THIS sight

Sep 22, 2014, 8:49 AM

Choice was an option quarterback in high school who started for three years, he is school's all-time leading rusher with 5,095 yards...broke record that had been held by Joe Burns...had outstanding senior year with 191 carries for 1,521 yards rushing and 14 scores, an 8.0 yards per carry...did that in just 10 games, so averaged 152 yards a game on the ground...as a passer, completed 31-57 for 522 yards and seven TDs with just one interception...had best passer rating in the region at 168.3...also led the region in rushing...had at least 100 yards rushing in every game but one and had a pair of games with over 200...had season high 258 yards rushing in just three quarters against Harris County to break the record...suffered injury at end of the third period and did not return...had career high 314 yards rushing against Lee County as a sophomore...ranked as a top 125 player in the nation by Rivals.com, he is #10 running back in the nation and ranked as seventh best player in the state of Georgia by Rivals.com...named to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Super 11 Team for the preseason of 2013 along with Clemson signee Deshaun Watson...received overall grade of 90 by 247Sports.com...played quarterback in high school, but will be a running back once he enrolls at Clemson...rushed for 1,622 yards and 19 TDs his sophomore season (2011) and 1,658 yards and 23 TDs as a junior (2012)...as a junior, made first-team all-state at the 5A level...had 600 yards passing and five TD passes in addition to his 1,658 yards rushing...second-team all-state player as a senior, honorable mention as a junior...

YOU would have been screaming for "heads to roll" if

Choice a RB failed to get it done. This is college, not high school.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not hardly...That's putting your people in position to make

Sep 22, 2014, 9:30 AM

a football play.

As it was , we didn't get the chance to make a football play.....numerous times.

Kind of like Bobo forgetting about Gurley was in his backfield a couple of weeks ago.....cutesy football calls.

Hammer the ball in from 1 ft.....some people never learn.

Re: Not hardly...That's putting your people in position to make

Sep 24, 2014, 1:14 PM

We were in position to make plays many times. Our players failed us each time. Sorry but I ain't buying the coaching cost us crap.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We were at times...in postition for 2 FG's...in position for

Sep 24, 2014, 1:21 PM

a TD to the TE early....and in position for a game winning FG at the end.

We were also in position to jumbo package Choice in from the 6" line after Seckingers TD was called back.

I think that was more critical than the fumble at the end of regulation.

It's over...we cant get it back....hope we don't repeat these situations again.

So, your saying: throw the players under the bus?

So who recruited those players and has been coaching them? That "other" CU that keeps beating you must have great coaches.

Or why not bring Stout back in...

Sep 22, 2014, 8:39 AM

if Watson isn't comfortable under center, then bring Stout back in. Dabo keeps spouting this crap about putting the players on the field that give us the best chance to win. In general I do believe that at QB Watson is that player, but in that particular situation maybe it was Stout.

There is plenty of blame to go around, from the head coach on down. I just wish they would learn from these mistakes and at this point I'm not so sure they will.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure they will learn either. This seems basic to me***

center." If that's the case then why was the first play in overtime under center.

The only way Stout was going back in was if he could kick***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

There was NO WAY Lakip was going back out there.

Sep 22, 2014, 8:44 AM

He was a total head case at that point which is why the decision was made to "go for it" on 4th down in overtime. Had the decision been made to kick it, Pinion would have attempted it IMO.

The kid is a redshirt Junior and he has to be more reliable than that.

NO WAY Lakip was going back out there.... BINGO

Sep 22, 2014, 8:51 AM

He is in his 4th year.

Was 1 for 2 last year....

And about that , at best , this year.

Re: NO WAY Lakip was going back out there.... BINGO

Sep 22, 2014, 9:07 AM

Maybe stoudt can kick FG

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't bring Stoudt back in.

Sep 22, 2014, 8:44 AM

Our Kicker would have made the winning FG and all would have been forgotten but they stripped us on our lard drive doing what great defenses do
Let's forget about Stoudt unless Watson gets hurt

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How on earth is that situation a coaching error???

Sep 22, 2014, 9:11 AM

It was 2nd and 2, We handed the ball off and CJ picked up a first down. The play worked to it's intent. It would have moved the chains and prolonged burning the clock.

The error wasn't the play call or the player choice, the error was a fumble. CJ had been solid pretty much all game and you there's no way on earth you run a play you haven't practiced.

You also have to give Goldman the nod for getting his hand in there and stripping it.

There is no way our coaches should or would have knelt down and tried a FG. Lakip was not comfortable in the situation and it showed.

I think you can somewhat blame the coaches in some regards but to me, unfortunately, this game comes down individual mistakes made at inopportune times.

The game of the year, to date , ACC title game on the line..

Sep 22, 2014, 9:17 AM

Your powerback with 6-7 years of football experience or your walk on track guy....

Now, who you gonna put in there ?

And icing on the cake....IF you choose track guy - why not use his talent to the wide side of the field - instead of inside power run over left guard ?????

It's knowing your personel.

Not saying the FSU guy doesn't strip Choice as well....maybe he does....BUT maybe Choice (with his experience) knows to cover with both hands and fall forward.

Re: The game of the year, to date , ACC title game on the line..

Sep 24, 2014, 12:09 PM

You are forgetting your walk-on track guy is a REDSHIRT JUNIOR and your power back is a TRUE FRESHMAN... on the road with the game on the line... I take the Redshirt Junior who was proven himself too.

Again, no one knows what would happen if Choice was in but,

All this was execution, period. Not one of us on this board knows personnel better than the coaches.

This game doesn't chalk up to coaching, games in the past against SCAR in particular do with abandoning a running game that's netting 4-5 a carry. UGA more than likely does with the adjustments and conservative play calling. This game goes to down to a lot of poor execution in crucial moments.

Re: How on earth is that situation a coaching error???

Sep 24, 2014, 1:38 PM [ in reply to How on earth is that situation a coaching error??? ]

During the fumble in OT, it seems like we were milking the clock instead of running the play. We are a fast team, not a delay team. Run the play! This extra ten seconds causes us penalties and fumbles.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Watson & CJ were tied as leading rushers for us.***
