How different is the mindset if we don't play UGA

in the opener and look really bad in the loss?
Open with a "warm-up" game to get the parts moving, beat SCST like we did, and the perspective and season looks a lot different. Opening with a top 5 team and losing in an ugly game just sticks with players, coaches, and fans.
I'm not scared of UGA and neither is our team, but I don't like opening any season with the most important game of that respective season.
Just my opinion.

one caveat. open against a top 5 team with a rookie QB. If you have a veteran QB not so much. DJ will get better. He was put into a tough spot in that first game given the competition, the OL and having an inexperienced backfield behind him (with LynnJ in the doghouse).

Typical over reaction by the fans.

It was definitely a bad matchup for Clemson

Going against a top defense with a monster DL while you are breaking in a new QB, rebuilt OL, best WR coming back from missing an entire year after neck surgery, replacing one of the best RB's in ACC history, etc.
Your post made me think of another question as well: how different is the feeling right now if Trevor never got Covid and DJ didn't start those two games last year? Are the expectations still high but more tempered?
I, like a lot of others, assumed he would be able to step right in based on his performance in those two starts last year but it is different pressure being the step-in "guy" for 2 games vs "the guy" from day 1 of the season.

It's not exactly the smartest way to come out of the gate.***

I'm not upset about losing to Georgia.
I'm worried about how the offense looked.
I'd say that the verdict is still out on how good this team is and can be.
and with our remaining schedule we won't know until the playoffs and if we don't make them we may never know.
and some of the things that went wrong against Georgia looked easily correctable in game but weren't.

A lot more people would definitely be drinking the koolaid about our new and improved offensive line right now. DJ didnt look that good in the second game either so people would probably still be concerned about him.

Better to start out this way and build our season from here. Lose a game like this later on and there's less time to recover. Of course, a win would have been better, but the 7 point loss was not devastating, as some claim. Others have and will lose games.

But, to your point, it would have been better to open against S.C. State and win.

I like knowing now, that we can’t score from the 5yrd line vs the playoffs. Something to work on.

We need to try to schedule more quality opponents. The game last Saturday meant absolutely nothing. Having the prime game first is not real smart, but TV dictates everything these days.

it's NEVER good to open or have a big game EARLY

in our last 5 big games in either game 1 or 2 of the season we've averaged 17.6 offensive ppg (and never got out of the 20s). Granted, we've won 4 of them, but for the most part they've all been close and not all of them were ranked or ranked highly at the time.
bottom line: our offense NEVER comes out of the gate strong, regardless of whether we have a seasoned vet at QB or rookie...........for whatever reason we struggle.

Dabo had a quote some time the week after the UGA

Loss and don’t remember exact words but I def agree in that if we would have won that game 6-3 or we had the pick 6 and won 10-3 ppl would feel the same about this team … offensive issues and line etc… we would be in a better spot instead of needing help but I truly believe we win out it works itself out it always does … in all of the playoffs there’s only really been one controversy IMO and it was the big 12 before they had a champ game way back
