I don't believe he did "out do" Dabo in recruiting
Feb 4, 2016, 3:02 PM

All of the recruits Georgia signed had either committed under Mark Richt or were heavy leans to Georgia under Richt. Smart did not bring any new recruits to Georgia. Rivals has Clemson nationally ranked in recruiting at 5 while Georgia is rated at 12. In fact, Georgia lost out on several priority targets in Georgia to out of state schools.

right, wrong, or indifferent it recruits itself
Richt was fired because he did virtually nothing with his top 5 or 10 classes the last decade..........by far the most underachieving program considering the talent they have.

LSU "does less with more."
Also, keep in mind that many of the "ratings sites" adjust their stars using SEC-favoring bias.. Particularly ESPN. It helps to provide a return on the $ that ESPN sends to the SEC.

Top 5 recruiting class with 5 of those players coming out of the state of Georgia. With the top guy being arguably the best player in the state of Georgia in Tre Lamar. Sounds to me if anybody got "outdid" it was Smart.

For example they have Jacob Eason as the #1 QB and #13 in the nation. I don't think anyone could watch that AAA game and tell me he's the #1 QB. That dude looked like garbage. It's funny how ESPN and other recruiting services dropped Feaster for not playing in that game but didn't drop Eason and he didn't eve look like he deserved 3 stars much less 5.

since 2002 they've landed 12 top 10 classes (the 3 non top 10 were top 15)
the other 9 schools that have recruited along a similar level have EACH had at least one appearance in the national title game.

Pay attention to the results on the field, which incidentally are pretty darn good. The rankings are just some sports writers opinions, and they are no better than weather guessing.

He didn't - Georgia outdid Dabo
Feb 4, 2016, 3:59 PM

Kirby didn't do anything, he just maintained the status quo. In fact, the UGA class was ranked one position higher when Richt was fired, so technically they dropped.
It really helps that he was the DC for three national championship teams, including the most recent one. Even though he got a late start, he was able to talk to all those kids that had committed to Richt and tell them that he could make them national champions and actually sound legit.
UGA will always be an easier place to recruit than Clemson, b/c (1) it's in Georgia and (2) they play in the SEC.

The state of Georgia is one of the top 4 states for D1 talent. They are the flagship school and the only real option for stud players to stay in state (GT does not register in the state). They will always be at an advantage recruiting-wise for top talent in that state. Simple fact. I'm not sure what you don't understand?

Outdo?
Feb 4, 2016, 6:34 PM

Please define
Smart outdid Dabo because a website had them ranked one spot ahead of us?
Newsflash coot, UGA will out-recruit Clemson 4 years out of 5, and frankly, they should. In fact, their classes are usually ranked higher than this one, so one could argure that Smart has under performed in comparison to Richt. (Although I must say, UGA's class is by far the most underrated recruiting class this year. They will be in the playoffs by 2018.)
Speaking of Richt, keep in mind that this was still HIS class. HE recruited the players for 3-4 years and got UGA in the mix.
Now buzz off, coot

Wait for the results of the recruits and we will see who out did who. Those rankings are just judgement or opinions. Who was in the National Championship in 2015 and almost won it by a gnats a$$ ?

If we have early recruits their stars only go up if they are the most dominant in All-star games. if GA gets an early recruit they go from 3 stars to 4 immediately.
The rankings are so so messed up and won't change anytime soon.

Georgia gets recruits because they are Georgia and they have been told for years they will win and some players eat that "supposed" too stuff up .
