How ACC can survive

May 22, 2023, 10:34 AM

Any thoughts on how ACC can survive and keep up with SEC and B1G? I still think to bring in a Texas team, OK St, Arizona St, Cincinnati. These are good schools in markets the ACC isn't in.

Bringing Cincy in would do no more than the addition of schools like Pitt. Not going to improve anything.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

That only dilutes the product more as those teams

don’t move the needle on getting a better deal.

If anything, the ACC needs to do the opposite and

contract down to 9 teams ( 8 conference games and play everyone every year. BE DIFFERENT!! I would propose those 9 be
Clemson
FSU
Miami
UNC
NC State
VT
GT
UVA
Wake
Pitt or BC (??)

Yeah that's not how these TV deals work. More content, more

The ACC's football-drawing programs - Clemson, FSU, Miami, Va Tech, NC State, Pitt, Louis, UNC (as much for their lawyers) - should form their own division and play more often during the regular season. Add West Va to this mix for the great TV and rabid fan base they offer, plus the great geographic and rivalry fit. Add 3 regional upstarts to the remaining six for a 9-team second tier football division.

The top division would negotiate its own media deal on the football side, which would go a long way towards closing the SEC / B1G gap. The 2nd division would do the same, and we would all split the rest for the other sports evenly.

Skewing our football to produce more nationally relevant content such as this would have its rewards, and we and like members would be the beneficiaries of that.

Super cool concept!

Personally? I’d much rather the ACC survive and flourish vs being forced to find a new home.

If we could somehow pull off what you’re suggesting, we would certainly be much more of a “force multiplier” vs having to start all over again in another Conference where we are the “newbies”.

Why do people keep making these senseless posts?

3

May 22, 2023, 11:02 AM

Adding a bunch of sh1**y teams will not enable to ACC to compete financially nor athletically with the SEC or Big. Its just mindless to think otherwise.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m not suggesting “adding” crummy teams…

May 22, 2023, 12:43 PM

I’m saying that if we can somehow restructure the ACC contractually, maybe even get aggressive and invite other top tiered universities/programs in order to be a premier Conf vs the SEC or B1G!

But, based on the info we’ve been given, assuming the ACC cannot survive, I’d prefer going to the B1G vs the SEC…

Bring in a Texas team? Like Baylor? Like TCU? Like Texas Tech. They do nothing. No network is paying anything of value to add those teams. No team in Texas, other than UT and A&M bring anything. TCU has like 130 living alumni. Baylor may bring you the ghetto Waco market. Texas Tech is like meh at best. The reason the Big 12 is safe is because the SEC, the B1G, the ACC, and the Pac 12 dont want those schools. The News of UCLA and USC leaving the Pac dropped around June 30th. The Big 12 signed their new rights deal on October 31st of the same year. Hypothetically, that gave the Pac
4 months to decide if they wanted to add Big12 teams. I heard very little to nothing about it. There is a reason why.

The only way ACC survives is if....

6

May 22, 2023, 11:48 AM

8 to 12 schools decide that are willing to compete at the Sun Belt level of competition.

No way ACC can survive competing at SEC B1G level.

There is no doubt in my mind that FSU, Clemson and at least 4 more schools are sending the message to the other AD's, "Staying in this conference is not an option. We are leaving as soon as we can fugrue out the details. Don't ask us to stay. Don't try to convince us to stay. Don't try to come up with a plan where we can stay. That ship has sailed. We're leaving. Period. The only discussion is how are we leaving and who else is leaving with us."

Solution-The ACC could have bake sales.

I agree with you.

The problem is hammering out the details on how to get out of the ACC.

But, FSU and Clemson will get out of the ACC. There is no other choice. The decision has been made.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Neither the B10 or SEC will make plans until UNC decides

May 22, 2023, 2:14 PM

which to go to…they are, and have been for 10 years, the #1 target out of the ACC for each of those conferences.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yup…couldn’t have stated it better…

There is no way to survive. The contract is not going to improve. ACC is a mid major snd those that stay are are well. ESPN will not offer another penny

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why would anyone leave the Big 12 to join ACC?***
