My buddy Ricky is getting hitched again and his best man scored some great discounted suites at Great Wolf Lodge in Charlotte for his bachelor party this past weekend. It was an absolute blast and I’m completely exhausted. I’d share more but we made a pact that what happens at the lodge stays at the lodge.
Anyhow, on the way home, I got to thinking about the season being only a couple weeks away.
Am I the only one who thinks week one is overrated? Everybody schedules a fluff team and the games end up being glorified scrimmages.
I don’t have the time to look it up, but I’d bet A LOT that the overall winning percentage in week one is the highest of all season. It has to be something like 80%, even higher than the second to last weekend of the season when the SEC teams schedule easy wins.
So while the rest of you get excited about week one, I’m focusing on week two.

Yep. Games like LSU-FSU are the only reason CFB’s aggregate win percentage is not even higher than 80% in week one. Might as well call it WEAK one.

No way it’s that low in week one. Mid-season, when teams are playing conference games, sure. There’s just too many teams playing weak opponents to start their season for there to be enough losses to push down winning percentage that much.

I don’t mean to be argumentative, but I disagree. With the weakness of strength of schedule, week one winning percentage is definitely higher.
I tried to Google it, but it appears that nobody keeps track. Might be worth looking into if you’re into that kind of stuff.

Maybe for an individual team or group of teams, but for the entirety of college football, the collective winning percentage will ALWAYS be 50%. When one team wins the other loses, thus .500
|

it's impossible for more than 80% of teams to win on any given Saturday. Are you suggesting there are never upsets on week 1? If you had said 75% + of teams win I would have bought it.

Typical week 1 IMO. Nothing spectacular but entertaining enough starting on 8/31.
