There is a very good reason why is is still at Clemson and he has said so himself on many prior occasions.

Whether Brent leaves or not depends on what he wants. It's pretty obvious that he's "happy" doing what he does... and he might be the best in the country at it. If he wants the prestige of being called a Head Coach, then it's available to him-- and has been for a number of years. I really don't think that interests him, but only he knows for sure. I'm sure his family doesn't "want" for anything with him making $2.5MM/year, but the bucks available to a Head Coach at a prestigious Univ are quite a lure. But, then, you've got to put up with a bunch of political crap that goes along with it.
My gut says he's doing what he wants to do, and making a s__t load of money doing it... I think he stays. We'll see.

Glad the offense finally got untracked. Between injuries and staying on the field so much he was probably starting to get tired.

I agree LB. How do you turn down 10-12 million a year and a 5 yr. contract at one of the top FB programs in the country? You don't. And Dabo would be the first to tell him. And Norman, Okie is not a bad place to live.
BV may have seen the handwriting on the wall at CU this yr. If it had not been for his Defense, the Tigers would have finished 4-8 and not 9-3. As long as TE and DJU, but esp. TE are the offense, CU is not about to ever sniff a natty and Venable knows it. He may be tired of carrying the team on his back and hearing Dabo call TE a genius.
BV also knows that with TE and no NFL caliber QB and NFL caliber players on offense like DW and Treavor had, CU is NEVER going to sniff a natty with TE as OC. BV can go to Oklahoma, earn 12 million plus a year vs. 2.5 million a year and have an OC and players that can get him to a natty. BV leaving will be a huge blow to Tiger FB. No telling how many commits decommit and no telling how many enter transfer portal.

+400 is an implied probability of 20%

I figure every year there is at least a 20% chance that Venables will end up with a head coaching position, so I'm not any more concerned than usual.

So you think in a year that So Miss and S FL are looking, the odds are the same that he will leave? Do you think we are flipping coins here? This isn’t stats 301, it’s based on emotion. There is no bigger fan of BV than me, but this OK opp should worry any real fan of the Tigers…

I think the odds of OU selecting Venables as HC is quite low

so...I don't know how to answer your question. If offered, yes, OU would be nearly impossible to turn down. I highly doubt he's offered though, and in fact think the odds are much lower than the implied +400 betting line.
I feel once Tyler and Jake have graduated / moved on, he'll be much more likely to take the best HC job available to him. That's just my opinion though.

I do believe that Venables will leave Clemson to be a head coach at some point in time. However, at this time I believe all the reasons that Riley left Oklahoma will impact Venables' decision.
I also agree with Plyler that the emphasis is on the offense these days. Not sure Oklahoma goes with a defensive guy at this point.

For what it is worth, Oklahoma will need an elite defense to win the sec. offense wins games but defense still wins championships.

This is exactly what I think as well. His stock has been high for a long time and he hasnt moved.
I understand that OK was his home, but think about the expectations of that job and what will actually happen when they enter the SEC. The pressure will continue to be huge, but the opportunity to succeed will drop dramatically.
I think that job is suited to an up and comer that wants that pressure.

Definitely. IMO, Dabo is the personality of the program and Venables is the football brain that drives the program. That's not a slight against Dabo, many of the most successful head coaches the same can be said of.

I do not believe Oklahoma is going to hire a first time head coach. Remember that BV was a little peeved that they brought Stoops brother back and moved sole defensive coordinator title from BV and made him co-defensive coordinator. Whether that matters or not who knows because BV knows this is a business so it may be water under the bridge already. I think Oklahoma is going to go after the Kiffin's of the world maybe a Campbell. Heck they may even throw a dart in the dark and see if Dabo is interested but while I believe BV will be considered I just don't think first time head coach will be their move. Keep in mind BV was in a quarrel about taking the Auburn job last year which is where he would have been this year if he hadn't of changed his mind. See BV knows the headaches related to being a head coach so his options are taking a head coaching gig and if it doesn't work out being fired in 2 or 3 years or remain at Clemson making head coach money worrying about one segment of a team. So we will see. All I do know is that BV has earned being a head coach at a top notch program and if he were to decide to leave that Dabo has had his contingency plan laid out years ago.

Here is what I predict (not that it is worth much). Clemson raises BV salary to 3 mil a year and he gets to recruit like Dabo (does not travel much anymore). Who would not want that! and Hey if Dabo ever leaves he could take over here.

Not sure why people keep saying Oklahoma wants to hire a proven head coach. Their last two hires had not been head coaches and both were extremely successful. Coach V said that last offseason was the closest he has come to taking a head coaches job which I found pretty surprising given I felt he would want to erase the memories of the OSU playoff game. The fact is we have no idea what factors come into play for these decisions, even with sons on your team.

2-3 million is not elite college head coach money sorry. Not when saban is making 18 and riley will likely be making 12+ at usc. The bar has been moved.

I think BV stays a couple years more until the K-State job opens up again. Then he can take the K-State retirement package and hire his sons at 200K a year (by then) to be position coaches.
