Freeman said that our Defensive play calling to eliminate the off tackles run game was why it wasn't as effective outside of the first couple of drives.

I noticed he was also out for much of the first half. I was wondering if they were trying to use him sparingly to nurse an injury. Had a great first series, then sat for the next two.

He only had 3 carries for 5 yards in the 2nd half, compared to 14 carries for 82 yards in the 1st half, so you might be onto something there. He was still in the game on their last drive, though. Looks like they rotated 3 different running backs in the 2nd half, and one of their WRs also got a carry.

There was something going on...
He came out on the first or second series and stayed on the sidelines a long time. Never went into the tent but the coaches and or trainers were talking to him.
He never really played a lot after the 1st quarter.
Makes you think maybe it was an illness and not an injury.
Dudes a stud. A lot like our 7.

There was a play where he got off the ground and had a bit of a hitch in his giddyup. And he was a bit slower after that. Maybe not really hurt, but affected.

I'm surprised that UND didn't invest some more time in the 2H to try an get the run working again. One of their fan boards in-game thread had posters melting down over it.

Don’t remember if it was the coach or someone else , but I heard someone say Clemson made some adjustments that kept them from getting their running game going in the second half, that and the fact that they were playing from behind limited his touches. I know someone on here said Wes never makes adjustments but maybe it’s just possible that’s what happened…
