was not a great athlete.
He was a good athlete, but his elite status from fans is bull ####.
He is over rated as a Clemson QB.
His elite status is directly a result from who he had around him.

Nasty pump fake and a good deep ball. He also had Nuk and Sammy and Martavis. Boyd often played scared and Jadeveon & the cooters owned him.

dives as well as anyone as I've seen, and he was faster than you would think, as evidenced by his ~50 yard dash up the middle against Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.
Of course, in said Orange Bowl, he kept both teams in the game.

They were beating him up from the get go and he just kept getting back up on the horse. And then, the 4th and 23 pass or whatever it was was amazing.
That win catapulted us.

Also, as a reminder, he missed a wide open Grisham streaking down the sideline for an easy TD.

He looks off a wide open Renfrow to throw into what was basically double coverage on Nuk. Worked out this time, but it was his willingness to put the ball at risk that made him both maddening and exciting to watch.

Wasn't fun.
His last game vs. Ohio State was quintessential Tajh: 378 yards passing for 5 TDs, 127 yards rushing for a TD... and 2 ugly as #### interceptions that almost cost us the game.

That long run was amazing. tOSU was shocked. Tajh was shocked. Clemson sideline shocked. All together shocking.

I thought we had reached a ceiling with Chad as playcaller
Jan 5, 2022, 12:46 PM

by 2014 but man he had some great designs that game getting Sammy the rock, think Sammy must have had 8 receptions alone in that game on jet sweeps and Chad probably propelled Sammy to a top ten pick because of it
Much better than watching us hand off the ball on a zone read 70% of the time like we have now

and Jeff Scott (the frickin Fontainebleau Miami Beach, bro) when everybody was partying up the victory. Jeff basically had to support Sammy to keep him upright and get him up to his room. He was one beat up dude.

I doubt many people are calling him "elite". He showed up
Jan 5, 2022, 12:16 PM
|
|
at a buddy's Derby party downtown last April.
I left while it was still daylight, and apparently, he got pretty shithammered over the next few hours. Every female still remaining at the party had a story about him being overly handsy. But, whatev, he's always been pleasant when I've talked to him (probably because I'm not a blond with big tits and an ass that tastes like French vanilla ice cream).
Guy probably had the prettiest deep ball in Clemson QB history, and that includes DW and TL. He just never had the ice water in his veins like those two. Too emotional, and we saw Sad Tajh too many times.
Also looking at pics and remembered the bartender was putting powdered sugar on the mint juleps. Totally just powdered sugar. Had a crazy sugar high that evening.

No Tajh, no Natties. Believe dat.
Jan 5, 2022, 12:19 PM
|
|
No, he was not a great QB as his lack of progress to the NFL or CFL will attest.
However, he was BY FAR the best we had in the post-Danny/pre-Natty era. Not in pure ability, but in the system, leading the team, using all the WR talent around him. Those games and those plays (UGA, LSU) got Clemson noticed in a way we had not been noticed since the 1980s.
That attracted other, even better players, and the rest is history.
