Hey, bretfsu.. gotta' a bone to pick...

What is your take on FSU cancelling to FSC/CU game in Tally back in covid season. Let me first say, I really like and enjoy your FSU perspective here on a Tiger board and you like for Clemson. Now,, here is where I'm still wizzed at FSU.

Back in covid times, Clemson went to GREAT expense to travel to Tally. CU charters multiple jets to seperate our players. We only took the minimum players and staff.

Clemson booked a nice hotel and had 1 player per room spread over multiple floors. We be doing the Facui seperation. We also rented these HUGE circus tents (Ringling Bros) and set up in a largre parking lot of hotel for feeding our players etc.

Bret, quess what happened on getting ready to play your Noles. FSU notified CU that a player on FSU team tested positive for covid and FSU said we are going to cancel the game. Total BS....

Dabo went on record and said lets retest everyone and play the game on Sunday. FSU said NO. We said lets play the game on Monday. FSU again said NO.

Dabo said in a presser (you search for it) "we've done everythig to get this game in and FSU has done nothing. Dabo said. I.ve been told that Clemson has already spent $750.000.00 so far.... end quote.

I would think our out of pocket costs exceeded $1,000,000.00 spent because the Woke folks at FSU saw a way out not to get their asssses beat.

Bret, I'm a 75 YO Clemson grad and I believe in forgiveness and redemption.. FSU needs to write a big check to Clemson. That game should have been played Sat/Sun?Mon...

Regards

I miss those days. Guys tackling each other , blocking each other ,to only run to the sidelines afterwards and “ masking up” . Hard to believe its almost that time again

Kinda makes it personal as Bret has zero to do with your request. LOL

Just think about adding Cal and Stanford. They would vote to cancel ACC season like they did in the PAC 12 when most decided to play. The Big 10 also canceled part of their season until they seen the ACC and SEC players wanted to play and did. Just a thought.

No Tigerpaw it is NOT persoanl.. I;m onrecored saying I really like Bret. I;m asking for HIS and FSU position on why FSU cancalled the game when there multiple option from CU to stay over after all our expenses to get there.

I;m hoping Bret and his FSU insiders can enlighted me. FSU owes us $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Maybe they paid. I doubt it.

I will simply say this... if he shoe had been on the other foot, them very good and us bad, they would have played! Bobby Bowden would have taken his whipping like a man! It was a punk move, period!

The player testing positive was a reserve on the Clemson team and in the traveling party. He was returned to Clemson on a private plane the Saturday of the game. It was too bad that he made the traveling party because had he not gotten to Tally, game likely would have happened.

Bringing it up after 2 years is a bit of abuse, but laying it at the feet of a person whose heart is in Tally but never speaks bad of our Tigers is unspeakable.

COVID tests were done by every team every week and the results were what they were. Horrible timing but in those days, it could have happened to any team.

It was a horrible decision made by FSU to cancel the game. Most FSU fans were ticked off. I understand and agree that Clemson should have been ticked off MAJOR big time.

But, here is where I think Clemson fans misdirected their anger.

Most Clemson fans blamed Norvell and said he did it because he was scared Clemson was gonna embarrass FSU on the field.

I assure you, the decision was made at a far higher level than Norvell. It wasn't even made at the AD level. It was a decision made by the president with strong input from attornies. Remember the situation at the time. Nobody knew for sure how dangerous, not not dangerous, the COVID virus was. Typical administrators - they were afraid of potential lawsuits and legal liability if worst case scenario developed.

Clemson did everything right. They quarantined the guy, sent him home and tested everyone who came in contact with him.

But, the FSU lawyers said, "What if we play the game and someone on FSU catches COVID and dies? We can't take the chance. We can't afford the financial cost. We can't afford the PR flack. And, most of all, we can't put our students into that possibility, no matter how remote."

So, the president cancelled the game.

I think it was the wrong decision. But, the anger should be pointed to the president, not directed at Norvell. He was ready to play. Even if Clemson won 57-0.

No use addressing the illogical with more logic.

Nobody was happy about it including FSU fans that knew they'd probably get torched. It's ancient history and the game played wouldn't have mattered any dang way.

I'm pretty sure it was a Clemson player who tested positive. Dabo did everything the right way and FSU still made the decision not to play the game. We agree on that part. FSU cancelled the game.

I know Clemson fans and administration were very unhappy with that situation but I think some of your details are off. As has already been noted, it was a Clemson player (not FSU) who tested positive for Covid.

This article says Clemson's costs were in excess of $300,000 (not $750,000 or $1 million).

Who knew that Brett was such a powerful and influential member of the administration at FSU? I guess it’s his fault that Clemson and FSU are stuck in a dying conference.

If it’s in the past we just have to let it go and forgive them and move on, Unforgiveness will produce bitterness.

And bitterness can be directly traced to the failure to forgive. It makes you caustic, sarcastic, condemning and nasty. Harassed by the memories of what you can't forgive, your thoughts become malignant toward others, and your whole view of life becomes distorted.

Whenever you refuse to forgive, you are inadvertently denying yourself joy. You become a very unhappy person and this brings discomfort to your relationships, hurting people hurt others.

If you don't want to be this way, then there is the need to let go of that hurt and forgive, not just for their good but for your good. Once you choose to forgive, it doesn't matter the intensity of the pain or hurt that FSU might have caused you, it will no longer have the power to make you sad or steal your joy. Truly happy people are forgiving people.

Clemson’s word this year can be Joy as we strive to win the National Championship!

Yea, I keep beating a dead horse. I repsect Bret and read all his posts. I was wrong about the cost to get to FSU at $750K, There were several talking heads and bloggers who kept repeating this number and some higher.

I think back now, they included our fee for playing to game. Don;t know what a ACC team is quarnteed to show up and play. I know CU pays Wofford/SCstate/Citadel etc between $250/300K to play in death Valley. I assume our contract with FSU as a visiting team would surpasss that, even during covid swason.

So, we show up and can;t play FSU and I assume FSU didn't pay us for cancelled game. Then Clemson had to eat the $250-300K travel plus we didn't get our payout.. This eqsily puts CU out the $750+K loss in cash flow.

Betcha FSU didn't offer any refunds. So. whizz on FSU...

Bret. I still think you are better than many T-netters who claim to Tigers;

I'm done.
