Money.
Plain and simple. It had nothing to do with strength of schedule, conference championship, win/loss record, eye test, none of that.
It was purely American greed plain and simple. Networks, CFP, NCAA all knew no one would watch the FSU game. I wouldn’t be surprised if major advertisers had already called and said they wouldn’t pay to run their ads during the FSU game.
It would be better and easier on people if the powers that be stopped lying and just came out and said college football is and will always be driven by money. Stats, wins, championships, etc, will always be second choice to big money.

The one and only reason FSU was left out was because putting them in would mean shutting the SEC out of the playoffs. It’s really that simple

Narrative of they’d get blow out due to having zero offense, since 1 and 2 qb went down. Maybe they got 2 qb back but still not enough excitement there to drum up national ratings.

You don't think Michigan/FSU would draw just a much as Michigan/'Bama?
I think people might turn in just to see how much they were able to download into this #2 QB they have!
And so what if it's not competitive, it's not like we haven't had blowouts in the semis before. Hell, we've given a few and taken a few as well.
I would expect the newness of FSU (not being the playoffs since '14) would also drum up more eyeballs than same old Bama again.

It should have been simple to most logical thinking people. You have 3 undefeated conference champs…they all get in in whatever order they choose. The other 2 conference champs have 1 loss. Luckily, they played each other so Texas would get the nod.

The only problem is that FSU draws better TV audience than Washington and comparable to Michigan!...Most of the SEC schools don't draw as well as FSU...ACC schools stink across the board with most not half filling home field games!... Duke had the best program in years and the stadium was half empty!
