Want fuel to blast Mike Norvell as a coach?

Here is some data that Nole fans are tossing out.
Mike Norvell's record
1. With Jordan Travis at QB - 29-9 2. Without Travis at QB - 4-18
So, the question is, was 19 straight wins due to Norvell catching lightening in bottle, like Ed Orgeron and Joe Burrow or Gene Chizik and Cam Newton?
Something everyone agrees with - 2025 is an EXTREMELY important year for Norvell.

... not quite as drastic.
Jimbo won games, not national championships, but ACC championships, before Winston. He had Christian Ponder and EJ Manuel as first round drft picks before Jamies.
Jimbo's problem was more complex
1. Jimbo had serious problems in the homefront. His wife had an affair that ended in divorce. 2. Jimbo wanted to use FSU as a stepping stone to a higher paying job. He was recruited by LSU and used them as leverage to get more money from FSU. (Sounds like Norvell and Bama, huh?) 3. Then, he got LSU and aTm to get into a bidding war for his services. He knew in September that he was leavbing for aTm. He basically quit on the team. Zero recruiting. Just going through the motions in coaching.
Mike is not going to have an aTm coming after him offering him the moon. If he has a couple of .500 seasons, he knows his next stop will be at a much lower salary than he's making now.
Jimbo quit on FSU. No one is thinking Mike has quit on FSU.

Jimbo had Bowdens team and his leadership as a coaching guide...at TAMU with everything going for him including a new girlfriend he was abysmal and somewhat prone to failure! Aggies are notoriously stupid but even they finally figured that one out! Jumbo Fishnet is going to be the new head corch at Limestone College!

Jimbo took a great program and did nothing but make it worse. I assure you, Nole fans have no love for him at all.

Norvell is wildly overrated as a coach.
The way he handled the playoff snub at the end of the 2023 season was remarkably immature and fostered a toxic environment within the program.
He is in over his head. Not gonna end well.

And how about the covid bs against Clemson? He has Clemson fly everyone down then cancel hours before the game. I lost all respect for him after that.

I have noticed with most complex questions where two options are listed as possible answers, the answer is usually in the middle. Things really fell in his lap for one great year. On the other hand, like Dabo, the portal and NIL has been hard for him to navigate in terms of developing roster continuity. For sure, this upcoming season is very important as IMO he needs to finish in the top 3-4 in the conference to gain momentum going into 2026.

So 8-4 at the very best this year for you guys. Does that work for him or will that create problems?

..IF he can also get a solid recruiting class.
7-5 probably won't get him fired, but fans will be calling for it. 6-6 will be iffy for him. At the very least, if he survives, his seat will be scorching hot going into 2026.
I'm definitely hoping for him to be successful. If he gets fired it will mean starting a rebuild from a broken down team. Not a good thing to do. Probably sets them back 2-3 years at best. (It would take 2-3 years to just become competitive at least.)

I’m not into blasting coaches. I will make fun of some that are easy targets like Brian Kelly and Cryan Day, and of course that guy in Cootlumbia. The only thing I’ve ever held against Norvell was when the game at Tallahassee during the COVID year was cancelled last minute.

He's the face of the program.
But, Norvell had nothing to do with that decision. That decision was made by the President and the Board of Trustees, upon advice of attorneys who were scared of potential lawsuits if anyone caught COVID because of playing the game.
Norvell was expecting to get slobberknocked in the game. But, he was wanting to play it anyway.

He rushed into that frenzy too quickly and he’s now paying the price. Dabo stayed out of it and has already paid a price in the dumb media and from fair weather fans. Norvell is still a good coach in my opinion and needs to be left alone by spineless Seminole Boosters for a couple more seasons.

If FSU were to make it to Charlotte it would be considered a huge overachievement.
If Clemson makes it to the national championship game it would not be surprising.
AT FSU fans are hoping, but not at all confident, that Norvel can succeed and won'be be fired this year or next.
It is amazing how much damage to the fan's perspective when you go from 19 wins in a row to immediately a 2-10 season with one of those wins against Charleston Southern.
As for me, I tend to be optimistic. Two months ago I was expecting 8-4 and thinking 9-3 was more likely than 7-5. Now, I'm expecting 7-5 and thinking 6-6 is more likely than 8-4.

Just surround himself with solid coaches who can recruit and he will be fine. The portal is a balancing act and I believe a team could pay big for relying on a portal heavy roster. It has to hurt in getting high school recruits knowing the next portal entrant could be brought in to take your position. The exodus of players from some of these schools seems staggering to myself and seemingly impossible in maintaining a roster. More money will solve all the issues it seems currently in college football. A couple of programs out there right now that I cannot see anyone being able to compete with consistently with what seems like an influx of unlimited funds. OSU, Michigan, Texas and Oregon come to mind right off the top of my head.

The fans may have lost confidence. But, the fans don't pay the bills. His buyout if he is fired after this season is still 40+ million bucks. And, we just brought in a bunch of new coaches and gave them all multi year contracts.
Unless he has another disaster of a season, he'll survive.
But, if he goes 6-6 or worse this year and follows that up with another 6-6 or 7-5 season, then 2026 could be his last year.
