Herb Brooks , a great coach and greater man

A little disappointed the hockey team tanked to Slovakia.USA Hockey is catching some heat over the loss.I was talking with a friend about Lake Placid in 80 and Herb Brooks and what a great coach he was . Read the Wiki article about him and draw your own conclusions but Herb coached one season at St.Cloud State University in Minnesota in 86-87 , won a conference title and finished ranked 3rd in the country .Herb helped St.Cloud get their arena built and later on it was named after him .The guy was so much more than the 80 Lake Placid gold medal.

I remember that game so well. The goal tender I believe, Mike Erosione (sp) I think, wrapped himself in the American flag. What a proud moment that was.

Jim Craig was the USA goalie that wrapped himself in flag at the end of the game. Mike Erusione (sp), I believe was team captain.

Brooks did a nice job with The Broadway Blues too. Unfortunately, the team on Long Island was better.

A great story about the 1960 gold medal the USA won

in hockey at Squaw Valley California. Herb Books comes in at the end of the story but it tells you everything you need to know about him and about the grit he had .
