Help with non-cable tv options and watching games

Sep 7, 2015, 6:48 PM

First- My apologies if this has been discussed previously. Don't want anyone getting their panties in a wad. :-o

Second- Thanks in advance for your most valuable input. ;)

I am considering going with Sling TV or Fire TV over traditional cable,TWC. My major concern is not being able to watch my Tigers. Does anyone use these options? I suppose I could always go to a bar to watch the game. :)

Thanks everyone! Go Tigers!

Fire TV is just an appliance (set top box, or 'stick' - box has ethernet, whereas stick is wifi only). The Sling TV app is available on Fire (and Roku, and has apps for IOS, Android, PC, etc).

Sling Tv is a subscriber service that you still have to pay for. 20$/month for base - another 5$/month for the extra sports package which gives you all the ESPNs.

You'd still then probably need an HD antenna to pick up your local channels in order to catch games that are only aired on the Big 4 (CBS/ABC/NBC/FOX).

I go with the following setup:

- Roku 3 hard wired (netflix, amazon, channel pear, etc)
- pay for Sling TV with the extra sports package
- HD antenna for locals
- Tivo Roamio OTA for recording local channel programming

Still significantly cheaper than dish/TWC/Direct/Comcast/etc.

HTH.

The sports add-on is not really needed. With Sling TV you can use their credentials to sign in to
WatchEspn and watch all the channels that are in the sports pack outside of some of the spanish sports.Save yourself $5

True.

I like the others available in the package as well - soccer, etc.

Easier to just 'change the channel' in Sling, but definitely...save 5$ as well by just using the WatchESPN app.

So many different options these days. I like to cast Tigerray's youtube vids for some after-the-fact action too - especially all summer!
