Frank Reich just fired by the Colts... hmmm

This guy would be an awesome OC for us. He is an offensive genius and has a lot of experience coaching QBs and WRs as well as running offenses, not to mention being a pretty good head coach overall. Imagine the offensive pro schemes he could put together having done this for the Colts, Chargers, Cardinals, and Eagles. And he played QB at Maryland and the NFL so he would be a great developer of talent.
If Dabo really wanted to shake things up and improve our play and our recruiting, this guy would be one to go after.

Read somewhere that in January the NCAA is likely to allow 2 more coaches on the staff. Perfect situation to add an "analysist" until then and then as a co-OC. Could be Reich, Scott or even someone else.

Back when I was a student, he came to Clemson and gave several motivational speeches for FCA.

So, he loves God. That should be good enough for Dabo...

Well…Dabo has a lot of guys on his staff that ‘love God’…and no, that’s not always enough when you still need to win a football game at the end of the day. I would hope Dabo would keep his options open to even those who don’t ‘love God’. A lot of those guys out there that are pretty good coaches I bet.

He's not a Clemson alum so he won't be coaching at Clemson. That's how it works, apparently.

So we are supposed to look at every fired OC in the country. First thing is ask yourself why he was fired. Secondly ask yourself how many pro players has he developed for the college game. He would be working with high school talent, not pro talent. Then ask yourself what his college coaching experience is as he has only coached pro players. Then there is age, and whether the college game has passed by what it was when he played for Maryland as a "back-up" for Boomer Esiason. Sorry but this is still a college program, not a pro program. If you go after anybody you go after the man that helped your school to two National Championships. If he is not available or interested then there are several other OC's that might be available after the season is over. But don't just jump at the first fired OC on the market.Hmmmm.

First off, he's not an OC he was HC for the Colts with a 40-33 record which may not set the world on fire but it isn't that bad for the Colts. Prior to that, he was OC for 4 years with the Chargers and the Eagles. His coaching mentors are Jim Caldwell, Tony Dungy, Doug Pederson, and Ken Whisenhunt. He is 60 years old. I don't believe he has any college coaching experience.
From all reports, he has always been considered a great offensive mind and a players coach. I get some of your points and not wanting to move too quickly but guys like this generally don't last on the open market for very long. Maybe he wouldn't be the right fit but he is a quality coach with great values and a history of developing some pretty good offenses in the NFL. Can that translate to college? I really don't see why not and at least worthy of a look IMHO. To me, his biggest asset might be the ability to come in and put together a complete overhaul of our playbook offensive scheme. We certainly could use an upgrade since we really haven't changed much from the Chad Morris playbook.

Just curious. Why is he getting fired?

As a part owner of a business I’m often interested in why someone is being fired when I hire them. For instance if the team he is a part of thinks he’s not doing a good job of offensive coordinator and that’s why he was fired I would want to know that before I fired my oc who had me at 8-1.

8–1 is a dumb statistic top judge anyone by

Whether people want to admit it or not the ACC sucks! Our competition is mediocre at best. Notre Dame is not a world beater. They have significantly less talent than we do, a first-year head coach, and a second string quarterback. Yet they outcoached us, outplayed us, and physically dominated us at every level.
The offense was terrible last year. And it wasn’t just DJ and it wasn’t just injuries. But DJ and injuries were the primary factor. But you could also see that I receivers were poorly coached. They never get separation. They used to be fundamentally sound with blocking, which now they routinely whiff. This is actually one of the most disturbing trends. Dabo of all people knows how bad our receivers are fundamentally. The fact that he’s not making that a major focus to fix is astounding.
Our playcalling has been boring and predictable. We play not to lose rather than playing to win. We don’t use our superior talent to advantage. Our schemes are terrible. Every analyst over the last two years with NFL experience mocked our schemes and our offense.
We have fundamental problems on offense.
The only reason we are 8–1 is because we have superior talent. We have been outcoached the past two years on a regular basis. Our coaching staff has taken a sharp decline from where it was a few years ago. We have nothing but Clemson people and internal promotions. It is an echo chamber. It’s groupthink. And they are all yes-men to Dabo.

Now you're getting it.
We don't have a coaching issue.. We have an issue at the most important position on the field. When we fix that then it will ALL come together.

Is it fair to say our QBs need to be developed and their potential drawn out? He has a record of coaching and developing some pretty good ones.

No, what I'm saying is, some of these players are basically at their potential. They simply aren't as talented as previous. Some things can't be developed. You can't develop speed, for example.

But he's been given all the tools and training, and he even has his own psychologist. Sometimes you can only fix so much, but giving him the tools and knowledge has NOT been the issue.

It would be worth a call to assess his level of interest.
Reich is a class act and the owner of the Colts is a bit of a sleazeball.
