In best time for him and he texted over a pic of his trophy buckle. It’s named after the Salamanders found in the streams around Mt Mitchell area.
Thx much for all who showed interest in his approx 35 hour feat with no sleep, especially bretfsu.

Great job. Ultraman marathoning is certainly a niche sport, but it is growing. I remember when the only "big" 100 miler was the Western States. Much easier course, and you got a belt buckle for finishing under 24 hours. (The course was primarily run over horse trails if I remember correctly. Less then half the starters earned one.)

Other vernacular names include snot otter,lasagna lizard, devil dog, mud-devil, mud dog, water dog, grampus, Allegheny alligator, and leverian water newt.

Some school needs to choose Snot otters as a mascot.
