Details of the recent GOP Bill to kill higher ed are now being revealed. It purposefully targets rural and low income families by making access to higher education more difficult. These people are truly cruel.

Doing the opposite of Jesus’ teachings in every place they can.

All while hiding behind a cross.

I sympathize with universities on free speech issues, though their support often seems one-sided. However, higher education has failed to uphold its role in preparing students for the workforce, focusing instead on indoctrination rather than education. This increased scrutiny is long overdue. Tuition rates have outpaced inflation for decades, and administrative bloat has overshadowed actual educators. By any objective measure, higher education needs to take a hard look in the mirror—it has failed students.

Here’s an idea: colleges and universities should guarantee student loans themselves. They’re the ones making unfulfillable promises about post-graduate salaries and opportunities. If they had skin in the game, they’d be more motivated to provide useful training and education, not indoctrination.

It might be worth your time to read a broader range of articles than

the one you cited. A tip off that the article is not looking at things from a bipartisan view can be seen in the title itself. The Republican bill does several things. It seeks to put the Pell Grant, long know by both parties back on solid financial footing.

Among the proposals of this bill is eliminating Pell Grant eligibility for students enrolled less than half time (currently 12 hours). It also includes a bipartisan supported idea to expand Pell Grant eligibility to short term programs such as a one year certification program.

It also seeks to limit the total amount of debt that students can incur.

It does have a proposal to: provides funding to eliminate tuition and required fees for (1) all students at community colleges and two-year tribal colleges and universities; (2) working- and middle-class students at four-year public institutions of higher education (IHEs) and tribal colleges and universities; and (3) eligible students at private, nonprofit historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and minority-serving institutions.

Further, the bill requires the Department of Education to award grants to underfunded IHEs, HBCUs, and minority-serving institutions for investing in support programs to improve student outcomes.

There is a lot more to be found if you dig and read articles from both sides of the debate. The problem in America today is we are dug into our side and won't even listen to arguments from the other side.
