have a feeling Tony is going to be back as OC at this point

why would Duke want him now that he has made it obvious they were not his #1?
If I'm Duke I would have moved on by now.

Dabo can’t exactly “demand an answer” from Tony at this point.

That would be disingenuous on his part, to encourage his assistants to pursue head coaching jobs that interest them but only if they do it on his terms and don’t inconvenience him at all.

I don't know if he was that dumb or simply wanted to send a message to Duke that he really wasn't that interested but to give that impression doesn't make a lot of sense. Perhaps he was convinced UVA was going to offer and he didn't care what Duke thought or he may have also thought he wasn't Duke's first choice so it didn't matter.
Either way, he seems to be handling his interviews as well as he handled our offense this year.

Elliott has been nothing but first class

And is a true Clemson tiger thru and thru. He doesn't deserve the pot shots and crap thrown his way. This season was tough for many reasons and not all his fault.
If he doesn't take or get the UVA job, it's not bc he fumbled the interview. I have zero knowledge but pretty confident in that.

I respect your opinion but common sense tells you that if you want a job and you have 2 schools interested in you it doesn't make much sense to put it out there that you prefer one over the other until you have an offer in hand. Supposedly he has a VA offer in hand so maybe that is why he said what he said but it seems curious that he doesn't seem to be closing the deal and other names are now surfacing for the UVA role. Maybe they did limit him on what he could do with the staff and that turned him off. Like you, I have no idea.
As far as this year, I agree it is not all his fault but as the OC the buck does rest with him. My personal opinion is that he rode the Chad Morris playbook too long and let our competition catch up on how to defend it. In the past, he had the talent to pull it off but now that we are more inexperienced, his schemes aren't working as well. BV never let our defense go stale; he just kept innovating and keeping us ahead of the curve. My biggest beef with TE is that he did not do the same.
I don't think being "all in" means you can't have concerns about some of the things that have been going on the last couple of years. I do believe in Dabo, the culture, and the process but ignoring the portal, not adapting the playbook, and not bringing in a bit more experience on the coaching staff with these new openings are certainly things that cause concern but I'm sure Dabo will make it all work in the end. I'm just not sure how yet but then again, I'm not the one getting $93M to figure that out.

It seems like it won’t be in Clemson’s best interest to keep him unless he publicly states he is here to stay because now recruits will think he is only here until he can find a better job, whether it’s now or next season.

the more likely he is staying.
Duke is in a very weak position and it's not surprising they are patient. TE would feel like a superstar hire for them.

(Vince Lombardi + Dabo Swinney) couldn't succeed at Duke

I think Tony knows that (Vince Lombardi + Dabo Swinney) CO-Coaches couldn't be successful at Duke. He's gotta go somewhere where he has a chance of being successful, and he knows it.
