Has DJ really regressed that much

Oct 3, 2021, 10:43 PM

I for one thought that he had. Went back and rewatched the 2020 BC game and don’t think he has regressed as much as a lot of folks think. Had forgotten that Clemson didn’t take the lead until the first few minutes of the fourth quarter and only won that game by 6 points. DJ did have some good stats but Powell and Rogers we’re making some acrobatic catches. Also Etienne had 84 rushing and 140 receiving yards. Take Etienne out of the game and Clemson probably would have lost. One of the other things I noticed was that the receivers seemed to be getting open. DJ did have a few nice throws but also over threw and under threw some as well. Personally after watching that game don’t think DJ has regressed as much as I first thought. He just had a better supporting cast last year that made him look a little better than maybe he actually is. Maybe someone with more football knowledge than myself will go back and watch last years BC game and give their thoughts.

What was your opinion of the 400 yard performance against ND? Mostly acrobatic catches and Etienne?

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wasn't most of the catches by Etienne, Amari, and Powell?

Oct 3, 2021, 11:03 PM

That would answer your question?

Were they 400 yards worth of acrobatic catches?

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, but Rogers and Powell were running free

all night. How many receivers you seen running free this year?

Didn’t rewatch last years Notre Dame game. He may have regressed some but I do believe the supporting cast from last year maybe made him look better than he actually is.

I think receivers getting separation and making tough catches help any QB.

That last throw that Ngata should have caught was

encouraging, and hopefully, that will lead to more confidence for the long throw. And they will practice it more, but cut out the RPO's, he is too slow for that apparently. On the drop back passes, the coaches need to guide him to pull up in the pocket, and not run backwards, without throwing the ball away.

The rifle shot to Ngata before that was equally impressive..

Laser in the middle deep....

He had a full spring, complete summer and a fall to get better.

He’s been taking snaps with the 1.

Last year he was thrown into the fire. BIG difference.

he's gotta stop staring down his reciever upon getting the

snap. He makes it way too easy on the defensive backfield. Deshaun Watson's head was always aimed straight down the center of the field and he would just cut his eyes to where he would throw to.Right now he's missing throws and his recievers are lost. LIke where was ladson? Where was EJ? where was anybody other than Ngata? Don't we have a ton of good Receivers? Where are they? Are they not pist they're not getting the ball? The only one who seems to care is Ngata.

I was thinking the same thing. One of the announcers - I think Jesse Palmer - said DJ wasn't throwing to the catch radius. Made me wonder if last years team with the talent we had (ETN, Rogers, Powell, made up for that and he didn't look that bad. So, is the problem that DJ is not working with the receivers one on one enough and can improve? Or, is the problem that he is about as good as he is going to be? Makes me wonder. . .

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No he was pretty accurate in that ND game. he had 781 yds

Oct 4, 2021, 10:14 AM

0 picks 4 Tds against ND and BC last year (2 games). This year he's got 793 yds , 3 Tds, and 3 picks in (5 games). The two games he played last year he was money.
