I completely agree that they need to follow the law. I have not seen anything in the LA situation that would indicate they were not following the law.
I think we need to expect immigrants to follow the law as well.
Of course the whole situation becomes muddled when the President, who blanket pardoned criminals who attacked the Capitol, is ultimately the one trying to enforce the law.

He has already proven that. While this protest shouldn’t have happened, the situation in no way called for the national guard. This is just an excuse to manufacture a situation where he can declare martial law and increase his authoritarian grip on the country. That’s all he cares about.

Or is this addressing Trump's unconstitutional and unnecessary deployment of the National Guard which, you know, you also know is out of line.
EDIT: I guess in the states where the Constitution doesn't apply, they should be allowed to continue to detain people without due process.

Eh - the President can federalize the Guard. Whether it's necessary is a different argument.

We've seen jailing of tourists. We've seen jailing of scientists. We've seen jailing of college students who write op-eds that Trump hates. We've seen lack of due process. We've seen attacks on freedom of speech. We've seen hundreds (at least) sent to a gulag in the El Salvador, who were never charged with, let alone convicted, of an actual crime. We've seen court orders ignored. And this is just the tip of the iceberg at this point.
So, I think of a different question from what you asked. We have a rogue administration, trying to destroy this Democracy and erode our rights as citizens and non-citizens in America. In what states should this be allowed?
