Harvey Gantt on Newsmax

6

Aug 20, 2024, 12:18 PM

First off I know this is primary a football board but sometimes other content is allowed. Plus this is the one source that a lot of Clemson people actually read

Well as kind of a history buff, when I was a freshman at Clemson in 1972 I seemed to come across an article on Harvey Gantt being the first black person to enter Clemson in 1963.

I guess I remember this because I was in Building Science that's in the College of Architecture .

He ended up graduating with honors in Architecture then moved to Charlette NC.

His big claim to fame came when he ran for congress against Jessie Helms. What I didn't know was that Michel Jordan was asked to endorse Gannt. No-one ever knew if Jordan was Republican or democrat because as he said 'republicans and democrats have feet and buy tennis shoes.'

Maybe we can all learn something, even from an old Tar Hole.

Yep. Jordan only cares about Jordan.

Everything doesn't have to be about politics and it would be best to avoid.

One of the accounts I have to call on requires you to read their D.E.I policies and sign. They also have a list (6 pages long) of words or phrases you shouldn't say in their stores.

I love that answer by Jordan!!

2025 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Im fine with it as long as you arent being unbalanced

Aug 21, 2024, 11:43 AM

Would you have a problem if the same company asked you to read the 10 commandments before working with them? Or banned calling someone born with a ##### anything but a male? If you read either of those and said “well that’s not politics that’s just right” then I definitely don’t agree with you. Does it bother you that Chick-Fil-A pushes Christian values? That’s political according to your definition.

And I say this as a Christian.

Yes, in my business all my customers were green($$$) and treated equally regardless of color, race, etc.

Jordan is a Democrat. He didn't publicly endorse Gantt in 1990, but he did donate to Gantt's 2nd campaign in 1996 and hosted a fundraiser for him in Chicago. He has donated to numerous Democratic Party groups, endorsed Bill Bradley in the 2000 Democratic primary, and hosted a fundraiser for Obama in 2012.

Since Heel-up Harris and Dementia Joe took office:

Gasoline +51%
Electricity +32%
Airfare +23%
Groceries +22%
Real average weekly wages -4%
Rent +22%
Eggs +47%
Car insurance +54%

Hundreds and thousands of elderly/retired citizens living on a fixed income have had to return to work in order to make ends meet.

I won't even get into the open border issue which is an ongoing threat to national security and her plan to offer illegals free healthcare and free education. She wants no restrictions on abortions. She wants to eliminate private healthcare and replace it with Medicare for all which would result in increased taxes for ALL Americans.

The economy under Biden has been a total $#!7show and Kacklin Kamala's plan is just a wash, rinse and repeat of Bidenomics.

If you aren't feeling or seeing the effects of the Biden/Harris economic disaster, it's only because you either are looking or you are so wealthy you don't have to care like the Hollywood elites and other celebrities who support those two idiots.

Don't know where you are located but, I just paid $2.67 for gas this morning. I don't see the complete highest gas prices argument. Just breaking it down for you.

Buy it while you can. Here in Columbia it may jump 20 to 30 cents a gallon in one day.

It’s called Realville. If you don’t see it you must be stuck in a basement playing video games. Sure not buying fuel or paying for groceries that is for sure.

Harvey Gantt

Aug 20, 2024, 3:08 PM

The deal according to some on Harvey is --

He was mayor of Charlotte when I lived there. Back in those days TV rights were hard to obtain. Harvey got one due to being a minority and Mayor. Some say he was just a shill/front man for a couple rich investors who wanted the channel but were white. They bought him out and he made a nice profit.
This kinda gave him a black eye, but also money.

I was at Clemson when Harvey arrived.

Fall 2021 issue of Clemson World Magazine. The man has had an amazing life, definitely among the Giants of Clemson Alumni. He also got a Masters from a little place called MIT.

He was one of the most underrated power forwards in the 90’s and often one of the forgotten members of the great Chicago Bulls teams . He’s in a long line of great big men in Clemson history
