Hands up for anyone that has blown up a bridge when you quit a gig

I think I've had all I want at this place, and I'm thinking of just not coming back. I've been told my whole life to never "blow up a bridge", but I think at this point at the end of my career, maybe I should finally tell my boss the truth that he's a bully, has no boundaries, has a terrible personality, and that he's a prick, too. There's a reason why people keep leaving, and he's it.
And maybe let a few others here know what I think of them as well.
Did you ever do this? How did that affect your permanent record?

that I knew from a former job. Or people at a job who knew others from a former job. Not that it would bar me from getting the job, but it could make it awkward.
Now if you're dead set on burning that bridge, the best way to show your boss is to wait until after hours, go over to his house, ring his doorbell, and when he answers the door, get down on you knees and suck his #### until he cumbs. Then ridicule him for being a ###.

easier or at least faster to get the poison out. Just make sure you maintain eye contact throughout the whole process to let him know who's in charge. And then snowball the final product into his partner's mouth.
And don't neglect the bawls.

I had several grandslams over the years. In fact, I only had one job I'd return to. Combustion Engineering and I was laid off with 2K others a year before the company shut down almost all Chattanooga operations.
Overall, I'd say all the animosity between me and the guys I worked for hurt me more than any of them. I have a special way of showing I'm unhappy at a job.

it's brief, if you leave, do it the right way. The other part of the ciphering is that rarely do people ever take good feedback and apply it. Why do you think taking negative feedback would cause this person to reflect in a manner to look inward?

the problem. The buck will stop with him and it will hurt you more than him.
Go to his boss, or HR, or both, and lay everything out for them, and tell then you're talking to them, instead of your boss, because you want to help your coworkers and the company in the future by letting THEM know.

And I got in a physical fight and a lawsuit with one previously.

That dude got all butthurt when his contracting company got kicked out of a place he was pimping folks out (contractors), and the company that he was pimping them too decided they were getting rid of contractors and going to all full time workers. I was working for him there as a contractor, and the company asked me to roll full time with them, so I did.
I never signed a noncompete with him that included places he couldn't do business. So a few months later I ran into him at a bar in downtown CHS, he was drunk, and started threatening me with a lawsuit. I told him to eff-off, go ahead and sue and I'd counter sue. Some more words were exchanged, we pushed each other around and he took a swing at me and missed. Bouncers came over and kicked him out.
Even with all that, he wasn't as much of a dink as my current boss.

decided to leave at the same time, in the same month. We got a new boss who was a complete cocky bas***rd mandating unrealisitic deadlines, unecessary reviews, just waste of time stuff, so we decided to plot a mass exodus over a couple lunches.
Instead of individually risking blowing up our careers, we decided to all covertly make plans to leave. When we had all safely secured new plans/jobs, we one-by-one dropped the 2-week notice bomb. I went first, my buddies went a week or so later so our collaboration wasn't so obvious.
Our move even prompted a couple non-collaborators to quit also, admin assts even. It left bossman in an impossible situation without a majority of his staff.
He was gone within a couple monhs of our leaving. Me and my two co-conspirators remain friends 25 years later.

I feel like no one has ever told this guy what a bullying dink he is; maybe he'd at least think about it--but prob not.
And like I said, if that didn't work, maybe I could goad him into an argument and he'd say something more stupid than he normally does.
Being as this could be my last gig and I just retire early, making a recording of me telling him what a dink he is and him blowing up at me, then putting that on the internets would be pretty funny.
I'm 110% certain that if it went viral he'd get canned.

My 2 cents - weigh the pros and cons...
Aug 14, 2024, 12:50 PM

the pros of telling them off is it'll make you feel better for a short time and might...might...make things better for the co-workers you're leaving behind.
The cons are it'll come back to bite you in the #### in the future.
Short terms satisfaction versus longer-term risk avoidance...I go with the longer-term risk avoidance every time.

You could probably get a couple of weeks of salary before they realize what is going on.
I don't know if we have any Gen Z posters, but if we did they might recommend accusing said boss of sexual harassment or not respecting your mental health.

I said something to him and the project mgt girl that was chiming in with him. I said the way they were berating him, the tone of the questions, and demanding answers he didn't have, on a call with 20+ people was not cool. I told him I thought it was unprofessional, and rather than throw the guy under the bus like that, they should pull him aside to talk to him.
2 days later he tells me I either take on 11 more people or he "won't be able to defend my job". No pay increase, of course.
With the no pay raise last year (after record breaking financials), essentially working 6-7 days a week since February, It's for certain there will be no raise this year either, and there will be more lay offs with no decrease in what needs to get done.
I'm over him, and this place.

I did, but not proud of it
Aug 14, 2024, 2:23 PM
|
|
Did it in my early/mid 20s. Felt I had been screwed over (well, I had... certainly things I could have done better but also dealt with big, older egos who weren't interested in helping me grow or be a part of team... instead were worried about how many people they could stab in the back for their own benefit). The main boss was a lying, dishonest prick. So, I took my final vacation days, walked in the next day, tossed my ID and any equipment that belonged to them on prick's desk, resigned effective immediately and, in a more eloquent way, told em they sucked, and walked out.
I wish, just to have been more professional, I had given the two weeks (although they probably woulda just cut me given that place). I didn't face any repercussions for it; I never wanted to and never will want to go back over that bridge. Just wish I had done it to be more mature at that age.
Funny, though... the prick later got fired from there (and he was high-ranking) for some pretty despicable behavior, so that was satisfying. He had a reputation for very bad personal behavior that leaked into the workplace.

What's the difference?
I am where I am, and if its status quo at this point, well, that's prob about as good as its going to get.
Does "being professional" get me anywhere when I'm old?
