Saw a mouse fall out from under his rust bucket Accord. Poor thing looked like it fell through a space portal. Ran from the lane to the left to the lane to the right trying to figure out what to do. Lost it under a Mercedes.

Chuckled. Ain't never see no mouse fall out from a car in traffic before.

Hour and a half to Bozeman, went into Costco, and came out to see the little guy chilling in the parking lot. He scurried back into the guts of the car when I was bringing the cart out.

I drove him back home and ended up making a concoction of cayenne and peppermint oil. I found him under the car and sprayed him with it, then sprayed the undercarriage. He moved out.

I'm glad we keep our garage tidy enough for us both to park in.

Because squirrels terrify me of what they can do to a car's electrical system.

Yup, squirrels are nothing more than tree rats. And I have personally seen rats

chew away the ENTIRE wiring harness of an old Ford pickup bed, leaving only the bare short wire ends sticking out of the tail lights. All wiring between that point and the cab of the truck was just.....GONE.

Needless to say, I had to tell the poor farmer his pickup would not pass State Inspection as is. This was back in the days when wiring on autos was still simple. It took me maybe an hour to completely rewire it and get the rear lights working again.

Running a country garage, I saw many other instances of rat wire damage, but that one was the most severe. I had a pretty good inkling of what I was going to find when the lights didn't work, as the pickup bed was still half full of corncobs and ears of corn. The rats had done a number on THOSE, too.

beside the warmth in winter.

Manufacturers - due to our omnipotent government passing legislation to save the Earth and the Oceans - make car wiring using soy-based material instead of petroleum-based plastic. Squirrels and rats LOVE the taste of this stuff and tend to snack on it.

It's happened to me and several others I know, engine/undercarriage wiring eaten. The dealer I went to said they get one or two vehicles a month with the wiring eaten by squirrels.
