Got an awakening of sorts on Saturday

Amongst several impressive people I met at an wedding reception Saturday was the Chairman of Alphabet/Google. Understated but very impressive older guy. Came all the way from Oregon to Lake Keowee. The celebrated couple of the event was a pledge class frat bro of mine who has done very well for himself, but the connection to the Google guy was thru his new bride’s family. BTW, my friends 3rd marriage at 69.
Guess what I’m leading to is relative levels of Success. I’ve considered myself to have had a successful career, my frat bro even more so, but he is still working his *ss off and will be with the new bride in tow! There were others present on Saturday who to various degrees were “mentioning” how successful they were. Although I’m still very happy with how my career went, it can be an awakening how much wealth is out there.
BTW, Ineligible user, you are wrong. The second $5 million is a lot easier to make than the first!

Coincidentally, the big lottery winner from years back that bought their ticket at a KC Mart gas station recently built a house in the Reserve. I sure would love to meet them at a party and bend their ear about their lottery winning strategy. Could pay off bigly.

Just found this to be a weird flex post.

Over the years on hunting, fishing, hiking trips and at work, I've met some incredibly wealthy people including two people that I later determined were billionaires.
Most were humble people and likable. However, they weren't immune to the loss of loved ones or fractured marriages.
While I'm very comfortable, I'm not close financially to these people, but I feel I am far luckier in life as I still have my dad, my wife, my kids and grandkids all in good health and successful in their own right and made a difference in people's lives in my vocation.
There's a ton of wealth tied up in a few, but I wouldn't trade places with any of them. It is however very interesting to rub shoulders for a while with people who have lots of fun tickets which have paid for some amazing experiences.

That's where it's at. I work around enormous amounts of money, and I've seen some really happy people with a lot of it, and I've seen some really miserable people with lots of it. Once you've gotten to financially secure (and that doesn't necessarily have to be that much of it) I don't think more money is a key to happiness and joy. If you have people who love you and have people you love, then you're rich.

On a related note, one bit of wisdom I have learned repeatedly throughout my life is if people feel a need to tell you how rich, or smart, or religious they are, they are pretty much always full of ####. The ones who actually are rich, smart or religious feel no need to declare themselves but will show you with their actions.

My wealthiest friend, who I'm pretty confident makes a #### site more than a lot of people at that wedding, and he's one of my best friends, well, you'd never know he has as much money as he does. He doesn't brag about it nor does he try to flaunt it. And he's about as great of a guy as you'll ever meet. He grew up dirt poor, too, so he never forgets where he came from.

Some guys have all the luck. Invited to parties at fancy clubs on Lake Keowee, 120K TU’s on TigerNet, and millions upon millions in the bank.
You should start giving motivational speeches on how to not just survive, but thrive.
BTW, if we’re being honest though, Hartwell is a lot nicer than Keowee.

Probably was very humbling, but at the same time made you more appreciative the nice life you do lead. You can settle in now and just enjoy. No need for envy. Just enjoy.

I was at a wedding last night in Batesburg where the groom and groomsmen were all wearing jeans, boots, fishing shirts, and trucker hats. The bride walked down the aisle to a song that I think is called “damaged goods” and they had four big coolers of frosty cold Busch light cans.
It was the best wedding I think I’ve ever been to.
