GOR end game

3

Aug 3, 2023, 8:59 AM

FSU is hoping ESPN brokers a deal with the ACC and SEC that allows them to transfer

They are threatening to bolt for the big 10 and challenge the ACC/ESPN GOR in Florida court (not Disney’s preferred jurisdiction at the moment)

ESPN wins with FSU in the ACC or SEC but loses if they go to the big 10

I think the real battle is going to be between espn and the acc. That might be the contract we should really want to see

I think that your assessment of the situation with FSU is spot on. These threats to leave the ACC is aimed at ESPN. None of us knows the contents of that contract but apparently FSU thinks there is a way out. I wonder if the powers that be at FSU have contacted the Tigers . ESPN could not afford to lose both of those teams. This is about to become interesting.
Do you think that ESPN would jump into a lawsuit with these two football powerhouses! I don’t think that they would but. … does Clemson have the money to make this happen? What a way to start the season!

According to David Hood's latest article FSU and CLemson...

The more I look at this, the more I agree with your assessment. It's really an ESPN vs. NBC/CBS/FOX battle to see which network(s) can or can't fund conference expansion. FSU is throwing chum into the water to see which shark bites first.

Maybe ESPN needs to be pressured into increasing the payout

Aug 3, 2023, 10:03 AM

to the ACC or risk minimizing the value of the content that the ACC provides which they are contractually obligated to pay for. Their current contract with the ACC makes it more likely that the product will be diminished relative to the competition. If the ACC could just have a good year this year and put a good product on the field, maybe they would feel a sense of urgency.

It's just a guess. I have no idea what's going to happen.

I can’t imagine the ‘smart guys’ signing a long term contract like this one. 55 million was a lot of money then, but today it isn’t. (And before some wise guy says it is a lot of money today ...... ‘

The ACC has no leverage with ESPN***

Agreed! The best way for Clemson and FSU to get out is for ESPN to think they might go to the BIG. It’s going to end up as an SEC-BIG situation. The question is which place we land and when.
